If you don't know about Jonestown or the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, read about it after reading this, as there's something similar between that and the Martin Campbell-directed Cleaner. While it is about Joey (Daisy Ridley) and her brother Michael (Matthew Tuck), it deals with some environmental issues and pollutants living on the Earth. One of them is certainly a guy called Noah (Taz Skylar), who was trying to become the Jim Jones of this world.
It also shares a few similarities with the latest Jesse Armstrong tragicomedy, Mountainhead, where four super-rich friends are chilling in the mountains, and their companies are bringing chaos to the world. It was about technology, but Cleaner is more about climate. However, after some struggles in the film, the evil company in focus here is ultimately exposed, but not everyone makes it home, as terrorists disguised as revolutionaries shoot them.
How was Agnian Energy fooling its shareholders in Cleaner?

Agnian Energy is one of the antagonistic entities in the film. It's an energy provider that claims to be making sustainable practices, only they weren't. It's all about profit for them, as they have secretly been dumping waste in bulk in Laguna Taracoa, which has become dull due to that.
But then a radical group called Earth Revolution, led by Marcus (Clive Owen), entered this gala that Agnian Energy had organized in a building to uncover the truth. Zee (Flavia Watson), a member of this group, hacked into Agnian systems and played a video that cleared everything out.
While the motive of Cleaner seems to be successfully met, a new antagonist rises. Noah kills one of the Agnian owners, which goes against Marcus' morals. The killing doesn't stop here, as Noah kills Marcus, too. Now, there's a new leader of the group.
Joey stopped Noah from executing a mass suicide

Now that Agnian's truth is out, we should know about Noah's. Noah was certainly an environmental enthusiast, but he was too extreme. He thinks that humans are what is destroying the Earth and shall be removed from the face of it for that.
The big shocker comes to Joey when she finds out that Noah is planning to kill people by encouraging them via the media to do mass suicide. Anyway, she disrupts this psycho's plan after she gets into a fight with him.
Noah had planted explosives in the building, and his heart was the detonator here. This is somewhat like Jason Statham's Crank, where if his heartbeat goes down, he will die. The difference here is that if Noah's heartbeat stops, it will stop everyone's, as the explosives would go off.
However, Joey was ex-military, as Cleaner makes it clear in its beginning. Before killing Noah, she says that she removed the detonator from him and sends him down the building to his death.
While this ends the threat, there's one thing that remains. The building was being held by Earth Revolution, and some confessions were made by the ones involved in malpractices. We see at the end of the film that an anonymous account posted them all, finally bringing the story to a proper end.
