It looks like we might witness Clueless star Alicia Silverstone in her Cher Horowitz avatar, all over again!
In an interview with Today, when asked about the iconic film being reshaped into a series by Peacock, the actor said:
“I’m really excited about it.”
The 1995 movie, helmed and penned by Amy Heckerling, is a cult classic that is roughly based on author Jane Austen's literary classic of 1815, Emma.
Let's know more about what Alicia Silverstone said about the Clueless series adaptation.
"I think we’re going to try really hard," says Clueless star Alicia Silverstone
While speaking with TODAY, when Alicia Silverstone of Clueless was asked about the details of the series adaptation of the film, the Batman & Robin actor was initially tight-lipped about it, saying with a chuckle:
“Not much.”
Silverstone further states about the vision behind the series adaptation. The series will revere the iconic legacy of the film, as well as the impact Cher Horowitz's character holds, as she mentions:
“I think we’re going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher.”
The series also brings about a sense of newness to the world of Clueless. The actor then mentions the fact that its development is at its very beginning stage, as she adds:
“So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. I’m confident that we’ll be able to do that, but we’re in baby stages right now.”
Alicia Silverstone is not only acting in the series but is also serving as an executive producer of the project on Peacock. In the film, she starred as Cher Horowitz, a popular, fashionable, and also flawed teenager whose heart is in the right place.
This is not the first time the movie has been developed into a series. A teen sitcom was created just after the film's release, within the timeline of 1996 to 1999. However, in this series, actor Rachel Blanchard essayed the role of Cher.
So, after almost three decades since the existence of the OG film, it will be refreshing to see it come alive in the form of a brand-new series. And that too, in today's context. And nothing could be better than witnessing Silverstone step into the shoes of Cher once again in this upcoming series!
Joining Alicia Silverstone we have Amy Heckerling and Robert Lawrence as executive producers of the series. We also have Fake Empire's Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, along with Jordan Weiss as writers, as well as executive producers of the series, according to Deadline.
Fake Empire is known for bringing us some iconic series, including Gossip Girl (2007-2012), The Carrie Diaries (2013-2014), Nancy Drew (2019-2023), to name a few. Jordan Weiss is known for her work in Dollface (2019-2022), Sweethearts (2024), Freakier Friday (2025), etc.
