"Comes with a lot of sassiness": M3GAN 2.0 EP addresses how the murderous AI robot has evolved over time and has become 'completely unpredictable'

A few months ago, we met Sophie Thatcher's Iris in Companion, an AI-powered robot that made the lives of the humans she was with a living hell. There's another robot like her, which we were introduced to in 2022 — and it's returning. M3GAN 2.0 will see its release on June 27, 2025, and it’s going to be exciting.

James Wan, who created the characters and is an executive producer of the film, recently told The Hollywood Reporter during its premiere in New York that:

"Teen M3GAN obviously is scary because she can blend easier into society. She’s also grown up, so to speak, and she comes with a lot of sassiness and a lot of teenage baggage. And as we all know, teenagers can be pretty frightening, so to put that into an AI potentially killer robot, you just take it to a whole different level."

Arnie Donald played M3GAN, and Jenna Davis voiced the character — and they will both return for M3GAN 2.0.

This will be the third film releasing this year that addresses concerns regarding artificial intelligence. Companion and Mountainhead showed us what this technology is capable of, although the latter was based on a much more realistic scenario and didn't involve killer robots.

M3GAN 2.0 will continue the story, beginning a couple of years after M3GAN, where the robot's creator, Gemma (portrayed by Allison Williams), will be seen advocating against the misuse of artificial intelligence.

However, the tech at the core of the film has been stolen and is now being used for military-grade weapons. This is why M3GAN needs to come back — to fend off the evil. All of this is available in the YouTube teaser details. The teaser was released four months ago and currently holds 3 million views.

We got its final trailer a few weeks ago, where we can see Gemma in a conversation with the robot. In the clip, the robot speaks about her mistake, and Gemma emphasizes the gravity of it, as it involved killing four people and a dog.

The new antagonist in M3GAN 2.0 is called AMELIA, played by Ivanna Sakhno. Gemma's robot tells her that this new abomination will kill everyone she loves to get to her. However, it's worth noting that M3GAN was designed to protect Gemma's niece, Cady (Violet McGraw).

The first film was all about M3GAN and Cady's relation

The final M3GAN 2.0 trailer also makes it clear that Cady is all that matters to this killer robot — which is a good thing, because that’s why M3GAN will be on the side of the good faction.

M3GAN attacked anyone she saw as a threat to Cady, beginning with the dog named Dewey. Then she rips the ear off the boy named Brandon (Jack Cassidy), who used to bully Cady.

However, by the end of the film, things got out of hand, and Gemma and Cady had to work together to put the robot to sleep. It certainly was a struggle, but they managed to do it together.
