Could Star Wars' John Boyega join the MCU? Here's what the star's latest comments revealed

Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Spider-Man, Tom Holland, once hopped on for a space travel way before he went on for a ride with Tony Stark and Doctor Strange on that doughnut-like Q-Ship.

He was there for the audition of rebellious stormtrooper with a designation FN-2187, Finn, whom John Boyega portrays in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. While the person was reading some lines during the audition, Tom laughed; the audition was blown.

Others were auditioned too, but John Boyega turned out to be the right choice for the role. Recently, the Star Wars actor gave a comment during a panel at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), which is brewing a question among the Marvel community about whether he will ever join the MCU.

His comment revealed that he is interested in playing an X-Men character who was in the original films for a brief moment, Bishop. We haven't seen the original X-Men except for Wolverine being introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet (Yeah! Sorry Deadpool, you still aren't one).

What did John Boyega say about joining the MCU?

As MCU Film News notes on one of their Twitter (formerly X) posts, he was unsure of the Marvel character he would want to play in the universe Kevin Feige has created, but this attendee helped him out by suggesting the X-Men character. To that, he simply said,

"Oh, I’d play Bishop."

Bishop had a minor role when X-Men wasn't a part of the MCU, in the 2014 X-Men: Days of Future Past. In the film's beginning, the remaining X-Men in a dystopian future are up against Sentinel robots, and Bishop is a part of them. Omar Sy (Intouchables, Jurassic World) portrayed the character. The energy-absorbing mutant looks more like Heimdall meets Thor in the film.

Despite appearing in a minor role, he is pivotal to the story, as Kitty Pryde (Elliot Page) sends his consciousness into the past, which sets up the rest of the film's story. There are also rumors that Kitty Pryde, alongside other mutants, is being eyed by Marvel for their version of X-Men.

Time travel and the multiverse are likely going to be normal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe post Avengers: Secret Wars, which is also when the new X-Men might show up. That makes us wonder about the fate of the ones appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.

John Boyega might not fit into the MCU's X-Men

We say this because of the age factor; rumors are that Marvel Studios is seeking young actors, preferably those in their early to mid-20s. Boyega, as of this writing, is 33 years of age.

Although he has been in a familiar environment while shooting for Star Wars, we can't say for sure if he will be a top choice for Bishop, like he was a top choice for Finn.

Following Star Wars, Boyega hasn't been up for a similar adventure, though he played Fontaine in a science fiction comedy, They Cloned Tyrone (2023), but that's a far cry from what the MCU or George Lucas' universe demands.

We will see if there's any word on him joining a Marvel bunch of superheroes; until then, his upcoming projects, including Otis & Zelma, Attack the Block 2, and The Freshening, will be in focus for him.
