Creep 2 ending explained: Sara escapes the grave but she may never be free

Creep 2 is a sequel to the 2014 film Creep and was released in October 2017. The found footage horror film is helmed by Patrick Brice, who also directed the first installment. Brice wrote the film with Mark Duplass, Jason Blum, and Carolyn Craddock are the producers.

What is the plot of Creep 2?

Creep 2 picks up right after the events of the first film. It follows Aaron, a serial killer, who murdered a man in the earlier installment. He puts out an advertisement on the internet for a videographer. A YouTuber named Sara shows up at his cabin, which is situated at a remote location.

Changing his modus operandi, Aaron confesses that he is a serial killer and he will let her live if she makes a documentary about his life. Sara, doubting his claims, plays along, hoping that it will bring fame to her YouTube channel.

A major change, that is easy to miss, is that Duplass' character is called Aaron. In the previous film, he was called Josef, and his victim's name was Aaron, which he took over.

What happened to Sara in the Creep 2 ending?

As Creep 2 progresses towards its ending, Aaron starts to showcase his creepy side once again. He has now thought of a powerful way to end the documentary that Sara has been making on his life.

In Creep 2, Aaron wants both of them to end their lives. Sensing her apprehension, he proceeds to take his own life in front of her. He takes a knife out of nowhere and stabs himself, seemingly dying in the process. Sara has had enough at this point. She was getting the creeps from him, but she played along for her career. But this moment is the final nail in the coffin.

Seeing this display of pure bizarre behavior, she runs for her life. But Aaron catches her and stabs her with that same knife. The scene then cuts to a grave where Aaron drags her body to bury it.

For the viewers, the end is apparent now. Just like the first film, here the good person has been k*lled by Aaron. But there is a twist as Aaron can't help but give a long monologue before burying her.

As he is speaking, we see that Sara has survived the attack and she emerges from behind. She hits him with a shovel and escapes. The true ending comes after this scene as we see Sara walking in public.

Someone is recording her movement while also whistling from behind the camera. This same whistle was in Aaron's videos which establishes that its him and he did not die. Sara suddenly looks at the camera and realizes that she's being filmed. But that is where the film ends abruptly. The makers go for an open ending with a strong possibility that the killer survived the attack and is now stalking her.

There have been multiple fan theories about the ending on Reddit. One of them suggests that Aaron is recording everything for his baby. It reads:

"I took it as Aaron’s old clips of him filming her like he did all his previous victims. My wife thought it was filmed after the events of the movie and the last frames are her recognizing him."
