Dangerous Animals: Release date news, cast details and more about the upcoming survival horror film

Dangerous Animals is an upcoming survival horror flick from the Australian filmmaker Sean Byrne. IFC Films has released its trailer online and by the looks of it, this might satisfy the Jaws fans. Here's the official synopsis:

"When Zephyr, a savvy and free-spirited surfer, is abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer and held captive on his boat, she must figure out how to escape before he carries out a ritualistic feeding to the sharks below. The only person who realizes she is missing is new love interest Moses, who goes looking for Zephyr, only to be caught by the deranged murderer as well"

Sean Byrne, who has primarily worked on horror projects, returns with Dangerous Animals, another horror-thriller flick as the director. His most recent directorials were The Devil's Candy (2015) and The Loved Ones (2009). Nick Byrne has written the script for Byrne's latest film, which is all set to be released in theaters on June 6, 2025. The cast includes Jai Courtney in the central role with Hassie Harrison, Ella Newton, and Josh Heuston in key supporting roles.

The film is produced by Brouhaha Entertainment in collaboration with Oddfellows Entertainment, LD Entertainment, and Range Media Partners. Per Deadline, IFC Films and Shudder hold its distribution rights in the United States.

Directed by Sean Byrne, Dangerous Animals revolves around a female surfer who gets kidnapped by a sadistic man, who puts her on a ship in the middle of the ocean. The only way she can escape is through the water, but it is filled with hungry sharks. So, she must outwit both these predators, who are out to take her life.

The official trailer offers a closer look into the psychotic killer, who seems as dangerous as the sharks who surround his boat. It shows him seeking pleasure from the pain of his victims. That's why he doesn't even bat an eye when he stabs an innocent man in the chest or hangs another one as if they are his fishing bait. However, a female surfer seems determined to free herself for good.

Dangerous Animals will premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2025. It will be a part of the Directors' Fortnight section and will vie for the Audience Award. In 2024, it was a part of the Cannes Film Market and was presented by Mister Smith Entertainment.

Later, the film will be released in theaters across the United States on June 6, 2025. Considering its deal with Shudder, it will most likely be available on the streamer. However, the online release details have not been revealed so far.
