Danny Ramirez and Tom Culliver recently dropped updates on upcoming projects.

One of those updates was about producing a fresh take on Scarface. While talking to Deadline, Culliver revealed that Ramirez might be the one who will play the popular character of the outlaw and bring the character back on screen again by adapting the original novel.

He shared:

"Danny will play Scarface. We want to modernize it, adapting the original novel."

More on this in our story.

Danny Ramirez will play the character of Scarface

During the interview with Deadline, while talking about other projects like Pursuit of Touch, Ramirez and Culliver revealed their plans to adapt Scarface in which Danny Ramirez is set to portray the titular character.

Culliver also spoke about them developing the project independently, and also how they are going to modernize a character that legendary actor Al Pacino had made his own.

He said:

"We’re independently developing it; we have some development financing in place. Obviously, there’s the Pacino legacy of it from the ’80s and then the original 1932 movie, but I think it’s ripe for modernizing, and to have someone like Danny in the lead is really exciting."

Ramirez added to this and shared how they are trying to develop their own IP:

"[We’ll be] developing our own IP, but also then going out and finding partners that have interesting IP that want to partner with us as creatives. But there’s also some that we’re just, with our little bit of funds, developing ourselves."

Culliver also added that they are mostly focusing on creating fresh and new takes rather than remaking things. Therefore, hinting that Scarface starring Danny Ramirez would definitely be different from the previous two versions, as it will be closer to the original novel.

He stated:

"I think importantly on the IP thing, we’re not going to engage on something if we don’t have a totally unique, fresh way into it. You don’t want to do stuff where you’re just remaking stuff for remakes’ sake. We’re not going to do this cravenly; we have something to say with the material."

He continued:

"There’s been too much of that in the last 20 years to just go around making remakes because you can latch onto some audience built into the IP. You’ve got to have a new story to tell within it."

While talking about adapting the cult classic film, Danny Ramirez also shared that this is one of his dream roles and how it is the perfect time to bring back the character. He said:

"Scarface, to us, is the one that it’s been a dream role to play, but also to develop in a way that I understand it. I think in 2025, it’s more relevant now than ever. So that’s where we’re excited to take this on."
