While Daredevil: Born Again season one has been a huge success, its lead actor, Charlie Cox, has not been a fan of all the episodes. It is not because he was not satisfied with his performance or anything of the sort. Cox was not a fan of Daredevil: Born Again season one's episode 5, With Interest because he thinks it is unrealistic to believe anyone can pull off a bank heist in 2025.
While fans have loved the episode because of Mohan Kapur's cameo as Yusuf Khan and the appearance of an unknown object resembling the soul stone, Charlie Cox is not a fan. He felt the episode did not align with the creative plan of the original show, and the plot of the episode was outdated.
Charlie Cox on Daredevil: Born Again's episode five
According to Playlist, Daredevil: Born Again was shot in a certain way initially. Changes were made after the WGA and SAG strikes of 2023, when the creators brought in Dario Scardapane, and new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again were shot. It was done to ensure the show was more creatively aligned with its predecessor, which came out on Netflix.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio were concerned about creative differences when they filmed Daredevil: Born Again initially. After new episodes were filmed, Cox was satisfied with all except the fifth episode. He felt it was an outdated idea to base an episode around a bank heist because the technological precision of the present makes bank heists almost impossible.
As he said in an interview with Playlist.
"I dunno if this is of interest, but I will say this amongst all of this, there was one episode we didn’t change at all. It’s the episode in the bank [“With Interest”], and that was part of the original [shoot]. We shot that before the strike. That was part of the original, and just for my money, I wasn’t into it. I didn’t like it. It was my least favorite of the episodes, and I kind of pushed back against it as much as I felt was possible. I said, “I don’t believe in a bank heist in 2025. That feels like a 1970s game. Too much technology these days for that to work.” And also, I didn’t think the actual device used for the theft was sophisticated enough. I really pushed back on the episode, and yet I hear from so many people that they love that episode. So, it just goes to show you just don’t know. It’s so subjective. Everyone’s taste is different. And I’ve heard that that episode is one of the highest-rated. Internally, when they do their ratings, it’s one of the highest-rated Disney shows that they’ve had."
While most fans have expressed love for Daredevil: Born Again, season one, episode five, some have expressed that they did not like it too much. As a Marvel fan, you will most likely not find anything 'wrong' with the episode, but it feels a bit detached from the rest of the season. It does not add anything to the main plot of Daredevil: Born Again, and given Cox's dislike towards it, we might not get a follow-up to it.
But it looks like Charlie Cox is more satisfied with how Daredevil: Born Again season two is shaping up. In the same interview with Playlist, Cox said,
“I don’t want to oversell it. I do happen to think it’s some of the best writing we’ve ever had on this show,”
Cox continues,
“I am sure everyone always says that. I texted the showrunner, Dario, the other day and was like, ‘Obviously we’re still halfway through shooting it, but huge, huge credit to what you’ve pieced together here.’ He’s done something which I’m really excited about, which is that he’s fleshed out characters that in the previous iteration of the show often get left behind. So, it feels much more like an ensemble than it’s ever felt.”
All episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, season one, are streaming on Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again season two is currently in production and will be released in March 2026.
