Whether he's taking down bad guys as Daredevil: Born Again’s Frank Castle or standing alongside the biggest stars in Hollywood, one thing is certain: Jon Bernthal always has that wow factor that fans just can’t get enough of. The actor has recently shared some details about his actual friendships in the industry, including one with Tom Holland.

During a panel at the Tokyo Comic-Con 2025, Bernthal revealed how much he’d enjoyed working with Holland for the very first time on Christopher Nolan’s production of The Odyssey. This ease translated seamlessly into Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as Bernthal’s Punisher will at long last cross swords with Holland’s Peter Parker in the forthcoming Spider-Man series. From reminiscing about their early days working together to admiring Holland’s acting skills, Bernthal’s comments highlight a genuine respect between two performers at very different stages of their careers.

What Jon Bernthal said about bonding with Tom Holland

Talking about working with Tom Holland in The Odyssey, Jon Bernthal did not mince words. Instead of his typical hard-boiled intensity, Daredevil: Born Again star Bernthal said working with Holland is "such a joy." The opportunity brought the two actors together again before teaming up with Holland for another Marvel project, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

At the recently held Marvel Gathering Stage at Tokyo Comic-Con 2025, Jon Bernthal told The Direct,

“I’ve known Tom since he was 17…..So yeah, I love Tom. It’s great to be back with him. We did the Christopher Nolan movie together and then right into Spider-Man. I just love him so much, and it was such a joy like Sebastian to see these young guys come up and do just incredible work in there. They blow me away. I’m honored to call them both friends.”

In the interview, Bernthal expressed his admiration for Holland’s commitment to acting. The Odyssey, with a cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Zendaya, among many others, is directed by none other than Christopher Nolan, and Holland is set to portray the role of Telemachus, whereas Bernthal will reportedly be playing King Menelaus.

More than just enjoying the work, Bernthal clearly values the person he works with. Indeed, their chemistry appears to come from genuine respect, not simply the printed word on the page.

What does this mean for their dynamic in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day

That brings us to the present, wherein it has been announced that Jon Bernthal will be joining the MCU in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, marking the proper big-screen introduction of his Punisher alongside Tom Holland's Peter Parker. For fans who have waited so long for these two characters and actors to share a major Marvel film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the big moment.

The off-screen relationship between Bernthal and Holland is already gaining attention. Long before Marvel fame, they worked together in small roles, watched each other grow, and are now facing off in one of the biggest franchises in the world. That only adds weight to the onscreen dynamic.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day itself promises a clean slate following the events of No Way Home, taking inspiration from the “Brand New Day” comic arc. Going for a far more earthbound, street-level tone, Spider-Man: Brand New Day teams Spider-Man with some much darker and grittier characters. Adding Bernthal’s Punisher into that fold feels like the kind of reset fans didn’t even know they wanted.
