DDG recently released his newest track, 17 Moe Years, on October 10, 2025, as part of his new album Moo. In the song, the singer seemingly discusses his custody battle against Halle Bailey, his ex-girlfriend. The singer sings in his song, talking about how he is tired of the court battle and no longer wants to fight:

"I don't wanna fight no more, tired of the court dates/Lawyers gettin’ over on us, watchin' money go to waste/We should all get together on his birthday, light the cake/If we talk, it'll get better, go ahead and drop the case/Used to text your phone, now we speakin’ through the mail."

Halle Bailey and DDG started their custody battle after the two broke up in October 2024. Bailey filed a lawsuit for the sole custody of their son and a restraining order against him. The restraining order was granted, and DDG's counter-filing of a restraining order against her, including to prevent her from taking their son to Italy, was dismissed.

Halle Bailey also accused DDG of abuse in her filing of the legal case, here quoted by People Magazine on May 14, 2025:

"I realize that there is no placating Darryl. I cannot allow this abuse any longer. Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts badmouthing me to his several millions of fans. He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media."

Bailey continued:

"He seems to try to set up drama for his fans. He goes 'live' ranting about me and alleges that I am keeping Halo from him. This is false. I have requested a set schedule, which he refuses."

Halle Bailey's request was granted as she provided photographic evidence of her abuse at his hand, particularly pictures of herself with bruises on her bicep and the chipped tooth. Halle Bailey also won temporary custody of her child.

After that, in August, court documents emerged that showed that the duo and their legal representatives had started a custody and domestic violence hearing at an unnamed Los Angeles court, as per Billboard. In August, the court also forbade both parties from posting pictures of their son online.

The album is the first new release since Blame the Chat, which was released on May 2, 2025, via Epic Records. The singer talked about Blame the Chat in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone on May 11, 2025, stating:

"It’s what I did with the song “Pink Dreads” with Plaqueboymax. We made the song, and then, seeing it getting a little bit of traction, we hurried up and put it out. So it’s just giving them what you know they like. It’s a safer route rather than making a song and then sitting on the song and thinking it’s the one, and then you put it out and don’t get the exact feedback you want."

The singer continued:

"And it’s like, why not show them the process? And if they don’t like something, you can stop it halfway rather than spending all this money on production on music videos and all this other stuff, and it’s a song they don’t even really like."

DDG is best known for his tracks such as Moonwalking in Calabasas and I'm Geekin, among others. The singer's full name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., and he was born in 1997.
