If the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement has made one thing clear, it's that the X-Men are going to be a part of the MCU in the coming years. They have officially arrived in Marvel's sprawling superhero universe, backed by Disney, which acquired them along with the Fantastic Four from 21st Century Fox.
Considering their presence in the battle against Doctor Doom, the X-Men are going to be a big part of the MCU's canon. So, the studio's creative brains must be racking up ideas to bring the mutant superheroes together in their own movie. There were also reports of Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier being considered to direct an X-Men installment for the MCU.
Now, Deadpool director Tim Miller is seemingly throwing his hat into the ring to direct an X-Men movie for the big screen.
In 2016, Miller's collaboration with Ryan Reynolds came to life and offered a new style of self-referential humor that has since occupied the MCU's movie landscape. Nearly a decade later, he is ready to dive into the mutant superheroes even further.
During a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Miller said,
“I think that the Marvel has this secret weapon they haven’t been able to unveil yet, which is the whole X-Men universe — which is what got me into comics. The X-Men are my favorite characters. I wrote [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige, and I’m like, ‘If there was ever anything that you would let me do in the Marvel Universe, please, the X-Men would be it.’"
Deadpool director Tim Miller had plans for an X-Men while it was at Fox
While eyeing an X-Men movie in the MCU, Miller reveals that he has been interested in developing this universe for many years.
"I had an X-Men movie in development at Fox when the merger happened, which would have been awesome. [It was based on] X-Men 143, which was Home Alone meets Alien.”
Previously, Marvel boss Kevin Feige hinted at X-Men's arrival in the MCU only after 2027. During the Disney APAC showcase in 2024, he said,
“I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”
So, whether under Jake Schreier, Tim Miller, or someone else's helm, an X-Men movie will arrive, but it will most likely be after the Avengers: Secret Wars.
Tim Miller sings praises of the Thunderbolts* and speaks about working on Deadpool

During his conversation with THR, Tim Miller spoke about his work on Deadpool and its massive success.
“I am keenly aware that I’ve gotten more than my fair share of credit for everything. I got to be the luckiest nerd on the planet. I have nothing to complain about, and Ryan Reynolds fucking crushed it. I didn’t expect to have my own studio. I didn’t expect to do a feature, much less one that would be as successful as Deadpool, or [make Terminator: Dark Fate]. Even though [Dark Fate] wasn’t as financially successful at the time, it’s in the black now."
Miller also shared his appreciation for the MCU's Thunderbolts*:
“I thought Thunderbolts* was an excellent film. Florence Pugh was amazing. All the other actors did an amazing job and the action was good and grounded. Overall, the movie was thematically consistent. You kind of forget how much that matters — when everything ties together in a way that feels super satisfying.”
