Confidence isn't often about big muscles and the guerrilla brains who are ready to fight on the go. The 2018 heist film Den of Thieves was exactly about this. Fans will keep watching the film with the big guys in focus, giving them thrilling sequences, and then the final moments will leave them thinking that these Gigantopithecus gunslingers were simply being played by a cunning fox.

The film stars Gerard Butler in the lead as Detective Nick "Big Nick" O'Brien, who is trying to take down Pablo Schreiber's Ray Merrimen and crew, trying to pull off a bank heist. Then there's Donnie, played by O'Shea Jackson Jr., who is stuck between all of this.

Merrimen and Big Nick appear to be of equal strength, but the former did manage to deceive the latter, with the latter unbeknownst that he is being deceived by another one whom no one in the plain can deduce to be the big playa.

At the center of Den of Thieves are $30 million in unmarked bills that are being removed from circulation. Merrimen's crew is trying to pull them out before they are shredded to pieces.

In taking down Merrimen and his crew, Big Nick uses Donnie, who is a getaway driver in the heist. He has been a getaway driver for Merrimen's crew before. So he is the one giving all the information about the heist to Big Nick and his crew.

However, there's a double game being played in Den of Thieves, as Merrimen finds out that Donnie is working for the cops. So he tells him to tell Big Nick of their big plan, which Donnie does.

Knowing this, Nick sets up a field for Merrimen's crew to trap them during the robbery of a bank. But the issue is, this is a distraction for the cops, as the plan for the actual robbery is taking place somewhere else, which is the Federal Reserve.

Big Nick eventually deduces this, but is a bit late because the heist has already been pulled off. A gunfight then ensues during a traffic jam after Big Nick captures Donnie and beats the truth out of him about where Merrimen and his crew are headed.

What happens at the end of Den of Thieves?

After this gunfight in Den of Thieves, Merrimen and his crew are dead, and Big Nick finally finds the bag where the money is supposed to be. However, there are just shredded notes inside it.

During all this chaos, Donnie has escaped, and the mission has failed. After this, Big Nick revisits the bar where Donnie used to work, which is shown earlier in the film. And after some observation that it is frequently visited by bankers, he deduces that it was Donnie who planned all this, and Merrimen was just a pawn in this.

It was Donnie who transported the money to somewhere else while leaving those shredded notes in Merrimen's vehicle.

When we see Donnie again at the end of Den of Thieves, he isn't the afraid Donnie but a confident Donnie with a full-on laid-back attitude.
