Pedro Pascal headlined the recent Fantastic Four film, but he won’t be the central focus of Avengers: Doomsday, as per a new report from Variety.

That doesn’t mean Marvel sees no potential in the internet’s favorite “zaddy.” The report suggests that he will still have an integral role in the upcoming battle between the heroes and the big bad, Doctor Doom. However, he will be teaming up with stars who have already been household names within the Marvel fandom. That includes Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Hiddleston, to name a few.

Pascal rose to fame with his work on television, from Narcos and Game of Thrones all the way up to The Last of Us and The Mandalorian. However, while he has proven his acting chops with indie projects, he hasn't exactly broken big on the silver screen. Hence, even though he would be an integral part of the fight against Victor von Doom, he may not lead the team.

Pedro Pascal suggests that he wouldn't be leading the new team in Avengers: Doomsday

Ahead of the Variety report, Pedro Pascal spoke with the publication about fan concerns related to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He addressed the past comments by Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman. He suggested that, in the future, Reed Richards would take the reins of the unit in Avengers: Doomsday.

Shakman was likely referring to the events from the comics where Reed shows interest in heralding the ship as the heroes fight together against the mutual threat. However, Pascal notes that this may not be the case with his future appearances in the MCU.

During an interview with the Associated Press, Pascal addressed Shakman's comments, saying:

“It’s big news to me, that’s for one. “I think Matt Shakman was doing an interview, and when he was speaking about Reed… there is something that happens in the comics where he is sort of drawn in by the Avengers family and asked to be put into a leadership position. That is something that happens in the comics. It isn’t necessarily something that my character’s future entails.”

Pascal may have realized that fans might misinterpret his comments, thinking he is trying to avoid giving them spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday. So, he further added,

“I am being honest in that. I am not even trying to avoid spoilers. It’s a little bit of a mislead.”

Considering the latest report from Variety, Pascal's words may hold some ground. As previously suggested, he would still be a crucial part of the MCU's new era. However, Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom may be the new focus of Avengers: Doomsday.

As hinted by the mid-credit scene in the Fantastic Four film, Doom appears in the First Family's life after they end their fight against Galactus. However, much like the planet-eating behemoth, Doom seems invested in Reed and Sue's young son, Franklin. So, he might be a key to the bigger unraveling in the final chapter.

In the past, Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark was one of the figures leading the team, along with Chris Evans' Steve Rogers and Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, among others. Some fans believe Captain America was the true leader, while others think the charismatic Iron Man was the mastermind behind it all.

Avengers: Doomsday might be leading in a similar direction, with everyone putting their best foot forward and bringing in their leadership skills to win the big war. We might realize the answer only when the film arrives in theaters by the end of 2026.
