It seems like things are getting heated on the Avengers: Doomsday set, leading to some changes being made in the script. The recent rumors suggest it's the case for Marvel's latest tentpole.
The MCU movie is all set to bring Robert Downey Jr. back to the cast as Doctor Doom. It was announced at the San Diego Comic Con 2024. So, fans, who were mourning Tony Stark's death, felt relieved to see Downey Jr. involved in the franchise's future. It also showed just how integral the actor is to the whole Marvel ecosystem.
Internet personality Jeff Sneider said something similar during his recent conversation on The Hot Mic podcast. According to SuperHeroHype, Sneider said,
"In the end, there’s only one person whose way matters, and that’s actually Robert Downey Jr.”
In the same episode, Sneider pointed out a rumor of an on-set clash between two actors, which might have affected some parts of the Avengers: Doomsday script.
Did Avengers: Doomsday recently undergo a change in script?

According to Jeff Sneider, the Doomsday script was changed as a result of a heated argument between two cast members, who didn't see eye to eye on some topics. Here's what Sneider said, as per SuperHeroHype,
“The dysfunction I’ve heard on this set is rivaled only by that of the Fast and Furious movies. I mean, we’ve alluded to an incident behind the scenes early in shooting that I did not want to go into details on."
He continued,
"It was probably that someone made it sound more dramatic to me than it really was…There’s a lot of testosterone and a lot of ego on that set. A lot of people who think they know what way is the best way."
Sneider reportedly ended his comment by speaking about Robert Downey Jr. being the "only person whose way matters." It doesn't come as a surprise since the studio decided to reintroduce the Oscar-winning star, likely due to his popularity among the MCU fans.
The cinematic universe started with a movie headlined by Downey Jr., which offered a framework to a studio-specific strategy and paved the way for its continued success. So, he must be the focus of Avengers: Doomsday, no matter how many heroic characters come to fight his big bad villain.
Speaking about the on-set clash, The Hot Mic host John Rocha also shared some insights during his appearance on The Kristian Harloff Show.
“They are two pretty big actors. Apparently, a comment - from what I understand - a comment was made in jest that was a bit too familiar because these actors didn’t know each other that well and crossed a line."
Rocha further added,
"One of the actors got really upset about it, confronted the other actor…And that caused a big rift and battle. I’m just going to leave it at two very outspoken actors went at each other.”
How does it all affect Avengers: Doomsday?

The MCU projects have often had flexible scripts that kept changing throughout their production. So, script changes are not new to the studio's equation. That also seems to be the case with Avengers: Doomsday, whose cast isn't finalized either. Tom Holland's Spider-Man wasn't mentioned, nor was Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool.
More recently, Reynolds shared a cryptic post, potentially teasing his return in Doomsday. So, with an ever-evolving cast list, there might also be some changes to the script. That's why the rumored on-set clash may not affect the movie in a big way.
Even if there is such a clash, there's always a different way to shoot the same scene. Instead of putting two actors in the same shot, they can be a part of a shot / reverse shot, which can help the executives shoot the scene even if the two actors aren't physically present in the same space, almost like how duet songs are recorded without two playback singers being at the studio at the same time.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to be released in December 2026.
