Amal Clooney might face restrictions on her entry into the United States. According to Fox News’ April 29, 2025, report, the British lawyer and humanitarian has been advised by the UK Foreign Office that she may face “sanctions” for legal advice given to the International Criminal Court on a Gaza war crime case involving the Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister.
Amal Clooney, who is married to Hollywood legend George Clooney, joined other top human rights lawyers to proffer advice on a controversial ICC case that the United States has condemned. A February 2025 executive order signed by President Donald described the ICC case against the Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister as illegitimate.
The United States' order alleged that the ICC targeted its Israeli allies while promising to impose sanctions on the parties involved in the ICC’s court case. Amal Clooney might face a suspended entry into the United States and blocking of property and assets.
Amal Clooney, who lives in France, has temporarily relocated to the United States to support her husband’s Broadway film, Good Night and Good Luck. The Clooney family also owns homes in California and New York.

According to the Financial Times, Amal Clooney advised the ICC in a war crimes case against Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister, respectively. Clooney and several senior human rights lawyers, including Justice Adrian Fulford, Danny Friedman of Matrix Chambers, and Baroness Helena Kennedy of the Shaws, advised the ICC on whether there was sufficient evidence against the accused Israeli authorities.
The ICC panel unanimously agreed that there was a case against Netanyahu and Gallant.
In February 2025, Donald Trump released an executive order claiming that the court:
"Engaged in illegitimate and baseless actions targeting America and our close ally Israel. The ICC has, without a legitimate basis, asserted jurisdiction over and opened preliminary investigations concerning personnel of the United States and certain of its allies, including Israel, and has further abused its power by issuing baseless arrest warrants targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant,"
The executive order further stated:
"The United States will impose tangible and significant consequences on those responsible for the ICC’s transgressions, some of which may include the blocking of property and assets, as well as the suspension of entry into the United States of ICC officials, employees, and agents, as well as their immediate family members."
The executive order immediately sanctioned ICC prosecutor Karim Khan and gave a 60-day internal investigation, which lapsed on April 7, 2025, to recommend to the president who should be sanctioned in the ICC case.
