Did Sarah Jessica Parker really ghost Nicolas Cage after their date? Actor says he ‘didn’t pass the Mom test’

Sarah Jessica Parker recently revealed that she had dated her Honeymoon in Vegas co-star Nicolas Cage. The Sex and the City star confirmed the decades-old rumor in a July 13 episode of Watch What Happens Live.

Nicolas Cage, in a July 14, 2025, statement to E!, revealed that while he hit it off with Parker in the beginning, he failed the mom test and didn’t hear from the latter again:

"I cared about Sarah, but I don't think I passed the Mom test. I recall sitting down with her and her mother for dinner at the Russian Tea Room,"

The Leaving Las Vegas actor wondered whether it was his outfit or his nasal infection that threw them off, adding that after the dinner, he didn’t hear from Parker again:

"I don't know if it was my blue Vanson Leather motorcycle jacket (which I still have) or my sinusitis, but I didn't hear from her again."

Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicolas Cage’s dating history explored

After failing to pass Sarah Jessica Parker’s mom test, Nicolas Cage eventually got over it and began a relationship with Alice Kim. In 2004, he tied the knot with Kim and they welcomed Kal-El Coppola, their son the following year.

They split in 2016. The six-time Golden Globe winner later married Riko Shibata in 2021, and the couple shares a daughter, August Coppola Cage, born in 2022.

Sarah Jessica Parker began dating again after ending things with Nicolas Cage. She married Mathew Broderick in 1995 and shares three children with him: James Wilkie Broderick and twins Marion and Tabitha Broderick.

In Parker’s appearance on Watch What Happens Live, she revealed that she could tell from the beginning of her relationship with Broderick that he was the “one.”

“I remember I had to leave to go on location to shoot a movie, and we were on East 10th Street. I was getting in a car to go away for a while. I remember thinking, ‘I think I love him. Should I say it?’ Because neither one of us had said it yet."

The actress added that she confessed how she felt about Boderick since she had “nothing to lose”:

“I knew he was incredible," she added, "just spending a little bit of time with him."
