Snow White's box-office collection has been sinking deeper and deeper, and it feels like there is no turning back for Disney's misfire.

The studio has been churning out live-action remakes consistently since the 2010s. In its early days, it struck gold, which led to a series of live-action adaptations of their older films. That has led to a series of projects that relied on the viewers' knowledge and interest in their pre-existing stories. It seemed like a predictable way to success until a few years ago when it hit some roadblocks.

The recent projects like Dumbo and The Little Mermaid underperformed at the box office. Snow White became another addition to this list. By now, it has earned $182 million worldwide. There are countless articles documenting the issues surrounding this film and the controversies around both its lead stars, which impacted its box office numbers. It also led to a review-bombing trend on IMDb, which plummeted its rating on this website. The critics' reviews did not help either.

Although they appreciated Rachel Zegler's performance and singing abilities, they were not too keen on the other aspects of the film. By now, the audiences must have learned more than enough about its Rotten Tomatoes aggregate percentage.

While that didn't stop A Minecraft Movie's box office run, Snow White failed to bring audiences to the theaters. Because of its dismal box office performance, Disney's film will have a tough time crossing even a minor milestone that a few other live-action remakes have done.

Disney's Snow White will struggle to recover its production costs from its theatrical run

Marc Webb's Snow White was reportedly made for $240-270 million, which makes it even more difficult for it to reach even to recover that cost. Add the marketing cost, and Disney has a difficult task to pull off in the coming weeks.

However, it doesn't seem likely, considering the audience's response to the film, which has already been removed from a significant number of theaters. The box office projections from Deadline also suggest a decline in interest. So, it may not even cross the $200 million milestone at the box office.

That puts it behind the likes of Christopher Robin, the 2018 film from the same studio. It suffered because it was banned in China, which is one of the biggest markets for Hollywood movies. Still, it managed to earn almost $200 million against its reported budget of $70 million.

Snow White may not have been able to achieve that milestone even if it had earned more upon its debut than Mufasa: The Lion King, which later became one of the highest-grossing films of that year.

Some sources say that, in addition to the struggles with the theatrical pull, Snow White is also struggling with its music sales. It could have helped the film in raising its revenue. However, that might not happen after all.
