The worlds of Anna and Jamie collide when Anna joins her dream college, Oxford University, where Jamie teaches. The two got off to a bumpy start. But doesn't that make a love story even more tempting? The timelessness of the 'Rivals to Lovers' trope seems to never die.

After a series of pushes and pulls, the duo reunite with the core idea of keeping their relationship casual. However, Anna soon comes to know about Eddie, the deceased brother of Jamie, who had succumbed to cancer. He also reveals his strained relationship with his father.

Soon, their relationship hits a setback when Jamie starts avoiding Anna. However, when an enraged Anna lands at his place, she finds Jamie to be quite unwell and seeking care. It is then revealed that, like Eddie, Jamie is also suffering from the deadly disease.

Jamie tries to push Anna away from his life and also reveals the reason why he and his father do not get along. Jamie had been a close witness to Eddie's fight with cancer, so he was not willing to go through the same agonizing treatment that could not improve his condition. But Jamie's father is unable to accept this choice of his son.

But soon, Jamie and his father do reunite, and his parents begin to understand and slowly accept his decision, too. Several moments in the film later, Anna gets a job offer at Goldman Sachs, and she rejects it immediately, as she wishes to stay with Jamie. But he is not happy with Anna making this decision, as he does not want her to suffer with him. Jamie wants Anna to go ahead in her life. However, they make peace with it.

Towards the end of My Oxford Year, Jamie, due to cancer, finds his immune system beginning to falter. He begins suffering from pneumonia, which is in an aggressive state. The lovers envision their dream of a European trip together, and slowly, Jamie breathes his last in the embrace of Anna.

Later, after a long time has passed, we witness Anna fulfilling their dream as she is seen in Europe on a solo trip. In the memory of Jamie, Anna is also seen following in the footsteps of Jamie, as she takes his position by joining the university as a teacher.
