Tron: Ares is the directorial work of Joachim Rønning with a screenplay from Jesse Wigutow. The latter has also written the story with David DiGillio. A sequel to Tron: Legacy, the film is the third installment in the franchise. It had its world premiere at Los Angeles' El Capitan Theatre and was released theatrically on October 10, 2025, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Here's the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:

"A highly sophisticated Program called Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings."

Let's take a look at whether the film has a post-credit scene or not.

Does Tron: Ares have a post-credit scene?

Yes, Tron: Ares contains a post-credits scene that is technically a mid-credit scene that appears after half of the names have rolled on the screen. It reveals what actually happened to the character of Julian Dillinger, who is the villain and CEO of Dillinger Systems. He is also Ed Dillinger's grandson.

This brief scene lays the ground for a possible fourth installment. He manages to escape in his Grid and manages to get a disc in grey and red colors. This creates an armor of Sark around his body. The scene is a direct nod to the original 1982 film.

This scene establishes that Julian managed to escape and did not pay for his sins. After the armor covers him, Julian lets out a scream while holding the disc, hinting that he might return as a more powerful antagonist in the future.

In a D23 interview, director Joachim Rønning revealed that they had to make minor changes in the story given how relevant AI has become in recent years.

"When we started out making this movie a couple of years ago, AI wasn’t in the newspapers daily like it is now. So our story has had to change a little bit, because AI has become a much bigger part of everyone’s lives in this last year. That’s actually been a bit of the challenge—how do we stay ahead of that and make it feel fresh? For me, again, it’s less about Ares existing as an AI program; I see him more as a 'being' from another level, but he wants to exist on a human level."

Tron: Ares is playing in the theatres.
