The Downton Abbey franchise is entering its final chapter with Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale. It will serve as a sequel to 2022's Downton Abbey: A New Era.
The film trilogy continued the stories from the original series. They followed the Crawley family and their staff in the early 20th century. The Grand Finale will take us through another chapter in their lives set in the 1930s. It is written by Julian Fellowes, who has been the primary voice behind it since its inception. Simon Curtis is directing the project.
Fellows has also produced this film with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge. The cast includes the regulars from this sprawling historical drama, which includes Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, and more reprising their roles. It is slated to be released on September 12, 2025.

Will The Grand Finale be the final chapter of the Downton Abbey saga? Here's what the writer said

Downton Abbey writer Julian Fellowes was in New York in connection to his other hit series, The Gilded Age. At the time, he was asked if The Grand Finale be the final chapter of the Downton Abbey cinematic series. He said,
“I don’t know. Every time I say, ‘Oh yes, that’s definitely it. Goodbye, and I’ll never do it again.’ Then, within a year, I’m back doing something. So I never say never anymore. But I think it’s the last with the original cast. They’ve done 15 years, and that’s a long time on a TV show. The young women who arrived in their early 20s are now in their late 30s, and they’ve all married, had babies, been divorced, and God knows what else since we started the show.”
When will Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale be released?
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is scheduled to arrive in theaters on 12 September 2025.
