James Cameron recently thought that if Avatar: Fire and Ash fails, he is done. Sorry, sir, you have to stay for quite a while. We all want more of these films. The press was shown the film, and all we can say from their reactions is that things in Pandora have become more intense.
In her review, journalist Courtney Howard writes,
"3 films in, James Cameron still has the sauce, making the epic spectacular feel emotionally impactful. A glorious saga. Bold, brilliant & awesome in every way, this is what movie theaters were built for. Payakan is still my fave, but Varang is the MVP."
And she wasn't the only one praising the James Cameron film. A film writer, Michael Lee, who also saw the movie, wrote,
"Deeper exploration of Pandora & new tribes allow for immense world-building. Story may be lacking, but this pushes technical boundaries in unimaginable ways. Plus it has out-of-this-world action."
In another post, written by Dorian Parks, the viewer said,
"James Cameron did it again! ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is jaw dropping from start to finish and easily one of the most visually stunning films to hit theaters in years. I’ve never felt so immersed in a world like this."
We are still about a couple of weeks away from the film's theatrical release, which is scheduled for December 19, 2025.
What happens in Avatar: Fire and Ash?
Only these members of the press who watched the film know what happens in the movie. We only have bits and pieces from online discussions and from the film's trailer.
One thing is confirmed: a war is raging in Pandora, and a new Na'vi tribe of Ash People, aka the Mangkwan clan, will make their way into the story. They'll be led by Varang, who is played by Oona Chaplin.
In the latest trailer of Avatar: Fire and Ash, we can clearly see how hell-bent on revenge Varang is. She tells a story about how the "fire came from the mountain" and "burnt" their forests. Then she takes it to Eywa, the Great Mother of Pandora, who didn't help them.
And it's not just her and her people who are going to be a trouble for our protagonists. Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) also returns in his new body from the second film. Moreover, it seems he is leveraging Varan's suffering and her people to destroy his enemies, something he has failed to do so far in the story.
However, there's also a possibility that the Ash People may come together with the rest of the Na'vi tribe, which is only good given that there are two more films on the card after this. There are probably bigger issues to resolve in the fourth and fifth films, scheduled for release in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
