What's the story of Eden Lake?
Eden Lake focuses on a couple: Jenny Greengrass (played by Kelly Reilly) and Steve Taylor (Michael Fassbender). The two go to an isolated lake for a romantic getaway. Soon, they are terrorised by a group of young boys, and the couple has to save their lives.
How does Eden Lake end?
As Eden Lake inches towards the climax, Jenny sees that Steve has been tied to a rock with barbed wire by the youth. Brett, who is leading the gang, tells everyone to stab Steve one by one. This is done so that all of them can be implicated in the crime. Paige records the entire torture on her phone. Jenny distracts the gang so Steve has time to free himself.
But she realises that his wounds cannot be healed easily. Jenny runs towards safety and stumbles upon Adam. The latter tells her location to the gang. She is eventually captured by them. She is tied next to the dead body of Steve. They try to burn the couple, but Jenny manages to escape. Brett gets enraged and burns Adam alive.
Cooper was accidentally killed by Jenny while he was trying to help her. The gang sees Cooper's dead body, which further enrages Brett. He kills one of his gang members. Paige leaves the group. Meanwhile, Jenny runs into a car on the road. She realises the driver is Cooper's elder brother. Jenny steals the car and runs Paige over on the road. The vehicle eventually crashes into a backyard party.
Jenny wakes up and is surrounded by a couple. People are talking about all the dead gang members, and it's Brett's house. Jon kicks the bathroom door open and attacks Jenny. She pleads to everyone that they started the attack. Brett lies and says that she and her husband killed his friends. Jenny is tortured and possibly killed.
The film's ending showcases Brett removing all the videos from his phone of the torture. He looks at himself in the mirror while wearing Steve's sunglasses. Through him, the story explores the issue of poor parenting. The film also explores the term 'Broken Britain,' coined in the late 2000s.
