Eenie Meanie: Release date, plot, cast, and more about the upcoming Samara Weaving action film

Eenie Meanie is an American heist thriller from 20th Century Studios, starring Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) in the central role. She plays a driver who gets pulled back into her criminal past.

Joining Weaving in the film is Karl Glusman, her recurring boyfriend, who is hardly reliable. They will be joined by Marshawn Lynch, Jermaine Fowler, Randall Park, Andy García, and more in the cast. The film marks writer-director Shawn Simmons' feature directorial debut. Simmons is known largely for the YouTube action comedy series Wayne.

During a recent feature piece for Collider, Simmons revealed some details about his vision behind the film. He said,

"[The audience will] feel like you’re watching this small, ‘90s indie, and then it blows up into this massive story."

Based on his comments, Simmons' actioner will likely remind people of the charm of the innovative projects from the '90s indie scene, which gave rise to filmmakers like Richard Linklater, Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith, and more. With a promise of this charming appeal, Simmons' film seems like an absolute treat for heist lovers. They won't have to wait too long to watch it since it will be available to stream from August 22.

The latest Samara Weaving starrer will be released on Hulu and Disney Plus on August 22, 2025. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (the Deadpool franchise) served as the producers on this project.

The film reportedly wrapped its production in June 2024. When speaking with Collider, its helmer Shawn Simmons shared details about the creative challenge of striking a fine balance between its different genres. He said,

"The challenge was how do I make this a more emotional journey inside of what we expect to be a thrill ride genre getaway, and I think it’s the best of both worlds.”

So, there will be plenty of adrenaline-pumping stunts in Eenie Meanie, but they will be backed by an emotionally charged story about a woman in crisis as she bounces back into her past.

Shawn Simmons has written the screenplay for Eenie Meanie, which will put scream queen Samara Weaving's foot on the pedal. She will play a driver, and per the official plot synopsis, she will face a major conflict:

"A former teenage getaway driver who is dragged back into her past when a former employer offers her a chance to save the life of her chronically unreliable ex-boyfriend."

This '90s-inspired action thriller is amping up its thrill quotient by putting a car chase inside a working casino. Simmons executed this outlandish idea with the help of his creative team.

During his conversation with Collider, Simmons revealed how they found a casino that would allow them to shoot the scene. When it came to executing it, he found just the right kind of people to turn it into a reality.

“You can't have a car with gasoline on a casino floor, so we had this guy, Trevor Mann, who is this genius. We all treat these car guys who build these cars like grease monkeys, but these guys are extraordinary, scientifically-minded human beings. He built a battery for the back of this car because we couldn't use the gas. It was insane what it had to pull off. All the things these cars had to pull off were kind of a miracle, and these guys did it all,” Simmons told Collider.
