Emily is about to cross paths with Miranda again in The Devil Wears Prada sequel, expected to grace the screens on May 1, 2026.
The last time, in The Devil Wears Prada in 2006, we saw Emily, she was in crutches but still working for Miranda at Runway. Andy quit her job but called Emily to offer her clothes from the Paris trip. Someone else replaced Andy as the second assistant, and Emily told her that she had very big shoes to fill. Clearly, Andy had earned Emily and Miranda's respect.
Twenty years later, they all are going to be back for another chaotic ride in the world of fashion. Emily Blunt is expected to reprise her role and so are Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. The sequel is said to be in development at Disney since July 2024. David Frankel is expected to return as director and so is screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original's screenplay based on Lauren Weisberger's novel of the same name.
However, no other concrete updates have been revealed since then. That's why during her appearance at a recent event, Blunt was asked to spill the tea on the sequel's production schedule. She looked at her rep before sharing her answer.
“Am I allowed to say that? Can you tell I’m skirting the issue? Can you tell I can’t tell you anything?”
Blunt told Entertainment Tonight that The Devil Wears Prada 2 would enter the production stage in July 2025. With the filming expected to begin in the summer, there should be plenty of time to flesh out all the details for the creative team.
Here's what we know about The Devil Wears Prada 2 so far
During her brief interview with ET on June 11, 2025, Emily Blunt was asked about some insights into the plot for the sequel. The interviewer wondered if Miranda and Emily would be up against each other in the second chapter of their lives. Blunt responded, by saying:
"Why are Meryl and I always so mean to each other in every movie we do? It's like we always have a beef with each other. Let's hope we remedy it. I'm not sure."
Blunt tried to evade sharing anything specific about the plot or whether her character would have a rivalry against Streep's character. However, in July 2024 (only a few months after Blunt and Hathaway were seen in Variety's Actors on Actors session), Variety hinted a few details about the plot. Per IMDb, The Devil Wears Prada 2 plot synopsis states that:
"[It] follows Miranda Priestly's struggle against Emily Charlton, her former assistant turned rival executive, as they compete for advertising revenue amidst declining print media while Miranda nears retirement."
This reported logline sounds similar to the follow-up novel Lauren Weisberger wrote, titled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. It follows Miranda and Emily against each other as Emily joins forces with Andy on another fashion magazine.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 might make some time-appropriate changes and introduce the issues against the traditional print media like magazines. Hopefully, we'll learn more updates soon enough.
