Emma Stone gave a sweet tribute to Gwyneth Paltrow by recreating her ’90s look from her 1998 film, Great Expectations.

During her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Stone was seen wearing an archival Donna Karan set, also donned by the Iron Man actress in the David Lean film. The film was adapted from Charles Dickens’ 13th novel, Great Expectations.

Stone’s outfit featured a silk green shirt, a lapelled collar, a singular hook at the chest, and a bias-cut skirt in Kelly green, a look well-known for ‘90s minimalism. It was from Donna Karan’s Spring/Summer 1996 collection. She completed her look with black strappy Manolo Blahnik Susa mules.

The Spiderman actress is gearing up for the release of her October 31, 2025, film, Bugonia. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the film stars Jesse Plemons, Stavros Halkias, Aidan Delbis, and Alicia Silverstone.

The Donna Karan set worn by Emma Stone as a tribute to Gwyneth Paltrow is an iconic ensemble originally from Donna Karan's Spring/Summer 1996 collection.

In the film, Paltrow plays the role of Estella, and the costume was the key part of her character’s stylish persona. While speaking to Vogue’s Life in Looks, the Goop founder said:

“So, this is Great Expectations. This was a Donna Karan outfit. All of my clothes in that movie were Donna Karan, pretty much.”

Gwyneth Paltrow further added how everything in the movie was green, including “every set, every fabric, and every costume.” She added:

“I had remembered that Donna had done a very green collection and it just so happened that it was all kind of perfect, and perfectly nineties, and elegant, and perfect for this character. It's so funny that this look got so much - and continues to get so much -traction.”

Gwyneth Paltrow has been celebrated for fashion throughout her career. Besides her Great Expectations ensemble, the 53-year-old actress is known for her iconic fashion choices. This includes her mid-90s velvet suit designed by Tom Ford for Gucci. She wore the suit to the MTV Video Music Awards in 1996.

Another of her notable looks includes a soft pink Ralph Lauren gown worn at the 1999 Academy Awards, which was widely praised for its old Hollywood glam. Another outfit that gained attention was from the 1998 film, Shakespeare in Love. Her character, Viola de Lesseps, wore elegant designs inspired by the late 1500s fashion.

Her upcoming film is Marty Supreme, is a sports comedy-drama directed by Josh Safdie. The film stars Timothée Chalamet, and the cast also includes Paltrow in a supporting role. It premiered at the 2025 New York Film Festival on October 6, 2025, and is scheduled to release on December 25, 2025.
