F1 is on track to surpass $150 million at the global box office only after a few days of its release. It’s currently sitting at $144 million in earnings after its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. The domestic release of the Brad Pitt-starring film contributed $55.6 million, while the international release added $88.4 million to the sum.

Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver. He is hired by his friend Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) to add more strength to his current team, which appears to be crumbling. Hayes needs to work together with Joshua Pearce as a teammate, but both of them have some attitude issues.

With this, F1 is also closing in on the top 10 highest-grossing films of this year. It has outgrossed films such as 28 Years Later, Ballerina, Mickey 17, and more. Now it is looking to beat Dog Man and Snow White in the days to come, which are sitting at $145 million and $200 million, respectively.

F1 may be topping the weekend, but it remains well short of breakeven. It was reportedly made on a budget between $200 million and $300 million, so it still needs to add $456 million to the tally on the higher end.

This year has already seen some big-budget movies hit theaters. Some of them, like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Lilo & Stitch, and more, dominated the box office following their releases.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning had a reported budget of between $300 million and $400 million. As of this writing, it has earned $562 million already. If it can manage to add another $500 million, it will be the first film in the popular franchise to enter the billion-dollar club.

Lilo & Stitch was made on a $100 million budget, but it has significantly outperformed the last Mission: Impossible film to a great extent. As of this writing, it has earned $945 million worldwide. It’s just behind A Minecraft Movie, which earned $954 million at the global box office.

However, some films weren’t that lucky and tanked at the box office. Captain America: Brave New World brought a new soldier with a shield into the MCU and earned $415 million against a $180 million budget. However, some reports suggest that reshoots elevated that budget to around $300 million. So, it seems like the film failed to earn what it was supposed to for breakeven.

The same can be said about the live-action remake of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, it was even worse, as it even failed to reach $240 million, which was its reported budget on the lower end.

There’s another big-budget movie, but it was released directly on Netflix: The Electric State. Though we cannot include it in the box office, it was a big flop made on a reported $320 million budget.

If F1 maintains its current pace, it could join the likes of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Lilo & Stitch, and more.
