The three films of the original Spider-Man film trilogy, directed by Sam Raimi, were released in 2002, 2004, and 2007, respectively. Starring Tobey Maguire, the films saw immense success, collectively grossing over 10 billion dollars.
Now, in 2025, as Variety reports, the film trilogy is re-releasing, and Spider-Man 2 is re-releasing with a 4K extended cut, which has never been seen before.
Spider-Man 2 is going to be re-released with an extended cut
Fans met the superhero Spider-Man in theaters for the first time in Spider-Man (2002). In the film, Peter Parker is an introverted high school student living with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. He has a crush on Mary Jane but is too shy to admit it. During a school trip, Peter is bitten by a genetically modified spider, and he gains powers like super strength, speed, wall-climbing, and web-slinging. After Uncle Ben is tragically killed, Peter decides to use his abilities to fight crime and help protect New York City.
In the second film, which came out in 2004, Peter tries to manage his responsibilities as Spider-Man while also handling college, work, and his feelings for Mary Jane, who is now engaged to someone else. He also deals with Harry Osborn, who blames Peter's superhero form for his father’s death. Things get worse when Dr. Otto Octavius, a once-respected scientist, becomes the villain Doctor Octopus after a lab experiment goes wrong, fusing mechanical arms to his body.
By the third film, which came out in 2007, Peter is dating Mary Jane, but his problems increase. Harry becomes the new Green Goblin to avenge his father, and a criminal named Flint Marko transforms into Sandman. Peter learns Marko was involved in Uncle Ben’s death, and a strange black substance attaches to Peter, changing his behavior.
After removing it, the alien bonds with Eddie Brock, creating a powerful new enemy, Venom. Peter then has to face multiple villains and his own darker side. The trilogy was followed by seven Spider-Man films, with more on the way.
