Paul Pierce has issued a public apology for doubting Anthony Edwards after witnessing the star guard's heroic efforts in the Minnesota Timberwolves' playoff series victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Pierce had earlier expressed his reservations about whether Edwards would be able to thwart the likes of LeBron James and Luka Dončić in the playoffs, but was proven wrong definitively as the Timberwolves ran out winners 4-1 in the playoffs.
Along with Rudy Gobert, Anthony Edwards proved to be one of the MVPs of the playoffs as he averaged 26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in the series.
This has led to Paul Pierce coming out to apologize to the young Timberwolves shooting guard, as he came clean with his misjudgment on a social media post in which he expressed his regrets:
"Ant-Man, my bad, bro. I knew you was a dog, I didn’t know you was a dog dog. I didn’t think you was going to go at Bron like that. I see you. You from the old school. You ain't got no friends on the court. That's how you play, my boy. And that's how I played, my boy. My bad, bro. You a dog dog."
He then went on to elaborate on the issue during an episode of the show "KG Certified," co-hosted with Kevin Garnett, in which he said:
"My bad, bro. I'm going to send an apology. You ain't going to hear no s*** like that from me no more, bro. You just showed me. It's all love. You one of them ones. I knew he was going to do it, but not like that. You got it, bro. My bad."
The incident caught the attention of fans on social media after Paul Pierce was made to take back his statements and acknowledge Edwards' impact in the playoff series. After watching the clip on social media, fans were complimentary of the NBA legend and lauded him for his honesty:
"Respect to Pierce for owning up that’s how legends do it....Ant’s game speaks loud enough to silence any doubts", commented one fan.
"Real recognizing real", quipped another.
"Respect for the apology, that's how it's done", remarked another fan.
Other fans joined in saying,
"I don’t know what he said, but it’s cool that he apologized", opined another.
"Respect to Pierce putting out a video showing love to Ant... Atp everyone should be a believer", added a fifth fan.
After his impressive performance in the playoffs, praises poured in for Ant-Man from all corners of the world. Fans on social media also gave props to the young athlete while taking shots at Paul Pierce for being proven wrong:
"Wow, the apology tour continues! Guess it’s time to send a thank-you card for that one", joked one fan.
Another skeptical fan commented:
"Remove the shades brother. Let’s see if it’s genuine"
Anthony Edwards and Paul Pierce - a brief history
It all started when Paul Pierce came up with his prediction before the playoffs began, when he suggested that Edwards would falter in the face of the credible threat posed by the Lakers:
"He admired KD but he ain't going to be doing all that woofing to [LeBron and Luka]. He ain't going to be doing all that. I don't think so. This is something different. KD is one type of aura, but LeBron is a different type of aura than KD. He ain't gonna shooting and looking, all that yelling. I think he's going to be a little more respectful."
Edwards was made aware of the comments made by the Boston Celtics legend before the playoffs, and he recently came up with a statement addressing his doubters after his star-making turn in the Minnesota Timberwolves' victory over the LA Lakers:
"[Stephen A. Smith] had all writers, they get a vote. They had Lakers in 6, Lakers in 7, Lakers in 5. You know what really turned me up? Paul Pierce"
Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Wolves had been discounted by many leading to the playoff series, and that acted as fuel for the Ant-Man. His motivation for proving others wrong never wavered, and he channeled those thoughts into something truly remarkable.
