When it comes to Stranger Things, it is pretty much perfect when it comes to the show's characters. The original ones are always a pure delight for our eyes to watch, but we are always seeing some new additions with new seasons. Season 5 brought us another one, too, Derek Turnbow, whom Jake Connelly is portraying in the final chapter of this story.
Fans have been talking about him lately, and believe that the actor did well with this character, with one fan writing on Reddit:
"I dont know how but ST does such a great job at bringing in new characters."
Another one spoke highly of the show's casting director, who would be Carmen Cuba here, who was also a casting director for the hit psychological horror film Heretic (2024). The user writes:
"Every single one of their minor characters actually has main character energy. Kudos to their casting director."
One fan included Derek among the likeable characters of the show, and the user isn't wrong there when you read the comment, which reads:
"If you're committed to not killing off your main cast you need to be good at introducing new, likable characters. Barb, Bob, Eddie, this kid."
Sadly, except for "this kid," everyone is pretty much dead in Stranger Things as of this writing.
Who is Derek in Stranger Things?
Derek Turnbow is one kid that you are going to fall in love with, and that too at first sight. He is one of the key characters, who is initially introduced as a bully (basically, the entire Turnbow family is), but becomes a part of the main team in the show when Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) confirms that Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower) is targeting him next.
As soon as they find this out, the main team tries to save him, which is like the most fun aspect of the season up to this point. They all kidnap him along with his family, though he doesn't believe the 'stranger things' they tell him, and he tries to escape until a monster shows up from the Upside Down. When that happens, he tags along with the team, who are now trying to find out the next victims of Henry Creel, aka One, aka Vecna.
Now, Derek is the most important part of the team, trying to banish the evil in Hawkins, sending him to the camp that the military has set up, where all the kids are. He manages to find all the kids who are seeing Mr. Whatsit, an imaginary friend of theirs. He is revealed to be Henry Creel in the show.
Stranger Things' final season is down four episodes already, and we are likely to see Derek being an important part of the team.
Three more episodes are set for release on Christmas, and one final chapter will arrive on New Year's Eve. Until then, keep running that thought train and coming up with some wild theories. You never know which idea of yours will come true in the upcoming episodes.
