Avatar: Fire and Ash is inching closer to its theatrical release, but fans can get a sneak peek into the threequel months ahead, during the re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water.
The 2022 sci-fi blockbuster film, The Way of Water, arrived over a decade after James Cameron's first film, which offered a look into the otherworldly Pandora. It brought the cast of Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang back to the screen alongside Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and more.
Three years after its premiere, this sequel will return to the screens. Variety reports that it will be out in theaters worldwide on October 3, 2025. It will offer another surprise to franchise fans through three exclusive clips of the upcoming threequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash. However, fans won't get to watch every clip in the same screening.
The outlet reveals that only one of the three brand new clips of footage will be played after Way of Water. So, fans might need to return to the theaters to relive this fantastical world more than once to watch each clip.
Avatar enters the third chapter of its saga with Avatar: Fire and Ash

Avatar: Fire and Ash is one of the most anticipated projects of 2025, and it's hardly surprising considering the amount of love and recognition the world of James Cameron's space opera has achieved over the years.
The franchise began as a visually striking adventure away from Earth, but gradually, it became far more than an audio-visual experience with high stakes. It tackled themes of colonization, greed, and corruption as it followed humans arriving at another planet, dubbed Pandora, to take over their world, to make up for the depleting resources on Earth.
Sam Worthington entered the universe as Jake Sully, a Paraplegic former Marine, who gets tasked to explore Pandora, and to observe and understand the Na'vi tribe's way of living. That's how he met Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and fell in love with her. He found a purpose for living with her community, which led to his change of heart.
The first chapter ended with Jake staying back as his Avatar with Neytiri, while most of the humans were forced to leave the planet. Eventually, the sequel tackled Jake and Neytiri facing challenges as a family, as they needed to flee and relocate to the eastern sea with the aquatic Metkayina clan. That's when they faced another battle with Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang).
Avatar: Fire and Ash will follow the Sully family members, trying to move past the loss of their son, while facing the threats of a volcano-dwelling "Ash People" clan, led by Varang (Oona Chaplin).
Disney recently released a new trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, and it shows another angle in its good-vs-evil arc. It introduces Varang as a new antagonist, probably the fiercest one from the franchise.
The newly released trailer also hints at a potential alliance between Varang and Quaritch, and it seems like an even bigger threat than before. As the evil changes its mask, the Sullys also need to find another way to survive. It seems like the film will show humans being able to breathe on Pandora without masks, which can be detrimental to the Navi tribe.
Hence, it will be interesting to see how this new dynamic plays out in Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is slated for a theatrical release on December 19, 2025.
