Final Destination Bloodlines is finally the highest-earning entry in the franchise that began 26 years ago. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, this slasher supernatural horror universe has been commercially successful since its inception. Despite the usual less-than-favorable reviews from critics, it has continued to be a favorite among its fans. The latest entry followed Stephani Lewis (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), a college student who returns home to see her family getting sucked into the trap of the grim reaper, leading to their demise.
Unlike the previous chapters, Bloodlines has been a rare critical success in the Final Destination movie series. Based on the critics' reviews, the movie received a fresh 92% Rotten Tomatoes score. That has seemingly translated into the response at the box office since its opening weekend. As we mentioned in our earlier report, Bloodlines surpassed Marvel's tentpole project, Thunderbolts* in its three-day weekend collection after it was released on May 16, 2025. That was a big win for a franchise that has been dormant for over a decade.
It seems like Final Destination Bloodlines is showing no signs of stopping. According to a recent box office report from The Numbers, the film has earned about $189 million at the box office worldwide, putting it right ahead of every single franchise entry released so far.
Final Destination Bloodlines surpasses The Final Destination in its box-office collection
Final Destination Bloodlines is now not only the highest-rated Final Destination flick but also the highest-grossing film worldwide. To put that into perspective, the film has crossed the box office figures of The Final Destination (2009). This fourth entry from the franchise from 16 years ago earned about $187 million at the box office globally with $66 million at the domestic box office and $121 million at the international markets (per The Numbers).
Bloodlines has crossed its worldwide collection figure in less than two weeks since its theatrical release. It has earned $97 million in the domestic market. Add the $92 million in the international markets and you have over a whopping $189 million worldwide collection. There have been many factors that seemingly came into play in its success. Some sources revealed that its positive Rotten Tomatoes score has led to its positive run at the box office.
Others pointed out the nostalgia millennials feel toward this franchise. It has also been almost 15 years since the fans witnessed a chapter of this movie series and Final Destination Bloodlines has revived it from scratch. So, that might be a key reason behind its monumental victory. Regardless, the film has been a major hit, and after its initial three-day collection, it has continued to be a significant player in the theaters.
Horror has been a dominant genre in 2025
Final Destination Bloodlines is not the only horror film to have critical and commercial success. Released in mid-April, Ryan Coogler's Sinners also proved to be a massive success and has earned over $340 million worldwide so far. Drew Hancock's Companion, the Philippou brothers' Bring Her Back, and Oz Perkins' The Monkey received positive reviews.
Gerard Johnstone's M3GAN 2.0, Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later, and Justin Tipping's Him are also some of the most anticipated horror projects of 2025. So, horror is definitely a dominant genre in 2025.
