The first look at Angelina Jolie's Couture is here, and it has gotten everyone to talk. Set against the electric pulse of Paris Fashion Week, Alice Winocour’s stylish drama casts Jolie as Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker with a vision as bold as the gowns she’s surrounded by.

When her path collides with a South Sudanese model and a French makeup artist, ambition and artistry intertwine in a high-stakes world where one wrong move can end a career, or make a legend. If this first glimpse is any indication, Couture will be a bold statement on not just fashion, but also feminism, art, and ambition.

The official synopsis of the film reads,

Set during the frenzy of Paris Fashion Week, three women’s lives intersect in Paris, Maxine (Jolie), a filmmaker in her forties who discovers she has breast cancer and is drawn into an unexpected connection with a familiar collaborator (Garrel); Ada (Anei), a fresh face in modeling, escaping a predetermined future back home in South Sudan; and Angèle (Rumpf), a makeup artist working in the shadows of the catwalks. As their paths cross, the film reveals the quiet resilience beneath the surface of public performance and honors the unspoken solidarity shared among these women across professions, cultures, and continents.

Once known as Stitches, Couture wrapped its Paris shoot in February, leaving behind a trail of haute drama and cinematic ambition. Behind the lens is cinematographer André Chemetoff, joined by multi-César-nominated costume wizard Pascaline Chavanne and visionary production designer Florian Sanson.

The powerhouse producing team includes Angelina Jolie, Charles Gillibert, Zhang Xin, and William Horberg, with Bob Xu as executive producer. The film is co-produced with France 3 Cinéma and backed by La Région Île-de-France, Canal+, Ciné+ OCS, France Télévisions, and Chanel.

Angelina Jolie is keeping Paris as her stage, trading opera gowns for runway drama this time for Couture. Premiering this September in the Special Presentations section of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, the high-fashion drama boasts a cast as chic as its setting, Louis Garrel, Ella Rumpf as Angèle, Garance Marillier, Anyier Anei, and Finnegan Oldfield.

The film follows the thunderous success of Maria, Pablo Larraín’s gorgeously moody finale to his trilogy on iconic women of the 20th century (Jackie, Spencer). In Maria, Jolie plays opera legend Maria Callas, spending her final seven days in 1977 reliving love, loss, and a career that reshaped the stage.

Venice audiences gave Maria an eight-minute standing ovation, critics showered it with praise, and awards season noticed, landing Jolie a Golden Globe nod and the film a Best Cinematography Oscar nomination. After a U.S. theatrical bow in November 2024, a Netflix premiere in December, and a stylish European rollout, Jolie is now back in Paris for Couture.

More details about Couture are awaited for now.
