Things are finally moving ahead with Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, as the production begins. In recent images, as reported by What's on Netflix, we can see a couple of new faces; none of them has been identified yet, but they are likely to play the film's leads as Gregory and Polly.
As of now, there are just four names attached to the film, according to IMDb: Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, Emma Mackey as White Witch, Meryl Streep as Aslan (unconfirmed), and Carey Mulligan in an undisclosed role. The film was supposed to be released on the streaming platform Netflix, but then it was decided that it would also be released theatrically. Puck's Matthew Belloni reported that the film is likely to be released in November 2026 first and later on the streaming platform.
What is Narnia: The Magician's Nephew about?

The film's synopsis isn't here, but we know the story based on C.S. Lewis's novel, the sixth book in the seven-book series. It is a prequel to the films we have already seen and is set in 1950s post-war Britain.
Narnia: The Magician's Nephew actually takes place in the year 1900, though, unlike what the film depicts. The leads, Digory and Polly, meet while playing and then explore an attic in the former's house. However, Uncle Andrew tricks Polly into touching a ring, which transports her into another world.
Then Digory's Uncle Andrew prompts him to go after Polly, but with a couple more rings, as they will be helpful in this journey. The world these kids enter is initially like a map (think of God of War’s The Tree of Life, Yggdrasil), where some pools serve as portals. They both choose to swim in one and again find themselves in the fictional city of Charn.
Both of them then encounter the iconic villain of the story, The White Witch, who was in an enchanted sleep for god knows how long. She is the last survivor in this city, which has been turned into a ruin. However, things take an interesting turn in Narnia: The Magician's Nephew when the kids try to escape and the evil queen follows them back to where they came from.
How many Narnia films are there?

As of this writing, three films in The Chronicles of Narnia series were produced by Walden Media. These were all the film adaptations of the first three books in the original story: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Tilda Swinton portrayed The White Witch, and Liam Neeson lent his voice for Aslan. The series was a commercial success and made $1.5 billion against a $560 million budget. However, it was mainly the first and the third films that could be deemed as commercial successes.
