Neon has released the first look at their upcoming supernatural horror film, Hokum, written and directed by Irish filmmaker Damian McCarthy, which stars Severance star Adam Scott in the central role of Ohm Bauman.
The film's official plot synopsis, as per ScreenDaily, reads:
"The story of a reclusive novelist who retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes and is beset by disturbing visions after he learns an ancient witch is believed to haunt the honeymoon suite."
The newly released first look at the film shows Adam Scott's character wearing fogged-up glasses in a dimly lit room. It feels like he has reached the other end of the rope, which explains his untidy appearance and an expression that feels like a mix of exhaustion and fear for whatever lies in front of him in that particular shot from the film.
Hokum marks McCarthy's return to directorial duties after the 2024 horror film Oddity, which earned him the Midnight Audience award at the SXSW festival. Later, it was nominated for four Irish Film and Television Awards, including a Best Director nod for him.
