A24 has revealed the first look at Kane Parsons's upcoming horror film, The Backrooms. It offers only a peek at the clapperboard for the movie, which features details about the film's production.

Parsons is a well-known internet personality with a massive fan following for his work as a director and a VFX artist. He uploads it to his YouTube channel, Kane Pixels. Thanks to his talent and understanding of the craft, he got a deal for a feature film from A24 when he was barely 19 years old. That makes him the youngest director in the studio's history.

The indie studio will serve as the distributor for this project and co-finance it with Chernin Entertainment. The latter will also co-produce the project.

They will be collaborating with 21 Laps Entertainment (Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen), Oddfellows Pictures (Chris Ferguson), Atomic Monster (Michael Clear and James Wan), and DMZ (Roberto Patino), as per an exclusive Variety report.

Judson Scott will be the executive producer on the project on behalf of Wan's Atomic Master, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing it.

The A24 film, The Backrooms, scheduled to be released in 2026, is based on an online eponymous urban legend, dubbed creepypasta.

Kane Parsons previously built an entire Horror universe based on this story, which has been one of the reasons behind his viral fame, especially in the intersection between Gen Z audiences and horror enthusiasts.

In June 2025, Variety reported that the film will start production in the summer, and the studio's latest post with a clapperboard suggests that it has commenced, as revealed.

The board reveals Parsons' name as the director, with Jeremy Cox handling the film's cinematography department. It otherwise reveals the usual shoot-related details on a clapperboard, such as framerate, scene, and take number. At the time of writing this article, Parsons is 20 years old, still the youngest A24-backed director.

The plot synopsis for this sci-fi horror, per IMDb, reads,

"After her patient disappears into a strange dimension beyond reality, a therapist is forced to brave the unknown in order to bring him back alive."
