We finally got the first official teaser of The Mandalorian & Grogu. Star Wars' official YouTube channel just dropped it. From underground gladiatorial combat to defeating AT-ATs in the cold, there's a lot packed into the 94-second trailer. Along with the trailer comes the film's official synopsis, which reads:
"The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu (as himself)."
You can find more details about the upcoming film on Star Wars' official website.
Is there a release date for The Mandalorian & Grogu?
The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently set for release on May 22, 2026. Jon Favreau is directing the film while also co-writing it alongside Dave Filoni. Previously, Favreau had directed a number of films, most notably in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the first two Iron Man films.
Favreau first pitched the idea for a Mandalorian-focused film before The Mandalorian aired in 2019. At the same time, Filoni was conceiving a similar idea. Interestingly, he was an executive producer on the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–2020) and Star Wars Rebels (2014–2018). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who is likely to step down from the company's position, suggested they work on this.
Before this film became a reality, we got The Mandalorian, created by Jon Favreau and executively produced by Dave Filoni. The TV series had a successful run, with the first, second, and third seasons earning Rotten Tomatoes scores of 93%, 93%, and 85%, respectively.
As for the film's cast, Pedro Pascal is returning as the titular Mandalorian. Alongside him, Sigourney will play the New Republic's leader Ward, Jeremy Allen White is Rotta the Hutt, and Jonny Coyne will play an Imperial Warlord. We will update as soon as more cast members are announced.
While this is exciting news for The Mandalorian fans, there is one factor that might affect the upcoming film. The recent backlash from fans after Disney took Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air could have an impact. This applies to all upcoming Disney films.
