First poster for biographical drama Swiped starring Lily James released by Hulu

After Celine Song's Materialists broke down the nature of modern dating, Rachel Lee Goldenberg's Swiped follows the woman who revolutionized it with her app. The biographical film revolves around the founder and former CEO of Bumble, Whitney Wolfe Herd. It will see English actress Lily James playing Wolfe Herd.

Swiped will be part of this year's catalogue for the Toronto International Film Festival, set to take place between September 4 and September 14.

After being screened at the Gala Presentations section of the Canadian Film Festival, the film will eventually debut on Hulu, the streaming service, which serves as its distributing partner. Viewers can expect the film on the streamer on September 19.

Ahead of its world premiere, Hulu has revealed the official poster and trailer for the movie, which shows Lily James portraying Whitney Wolfe Herd, who was part of the Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2017 and 2018.

As revealed earlier, the poster shows how Lily James would look in the film's central role. It shows her in close-up as she looks directly and resolutely into the lens, while holding a phone in her hand.

The trailer offers a glimpse into the film's intense environment, where Whitney Wolfe Herd achieved her success by offering women the choice in the dating space. It led to her billion-dollar story, as she envisioned a fierce competitor to Tinder. However, along with the good parts came the bad ones. She also had to deal with unfortunate incidents connected to the company's monumental rise.

Director Rachel Lee Goldenberg penned the film's screenplay with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele. 20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment produced this feature film, with Jennifer Gibgot, Lily James, Gala Gordon, Sarah Shepard, and Andrew Panay serving as producers.

Speaking about the creative departments, Chanda Dancy scored the film while cinematographer Doug Emmett shot it with his team. Julia Wong served as the editor.

Apart from Hulu's Swiped, Lily James has a few more projects on the radar in 2025.

Her latest project to be released in theaters is Relay, a riveting crime thriller, where she co-stars with fellow British actor Riz Ahmed. The film had its world premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and is now getting a wide theatrical release on August 22, 2025. Written by Justin Piasecki and directed by David Mackenzie, it stars James as a woman seeking help from Ahmed's bribe-broker character.

In addition to this film, James is set to star in Jaume Collet-Serra's adventure thriller, Cliffhanger, alongside Franz Rogowski, Pierce Brosnan, Assaad Bouab, and Shubham Saraf, among others.
