Netflix has revealed the first poster for Guillermo Del Toro's long-anticipated film, Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz in the central roles.
Oscar Isaac plays Dr. Victor Frankenstein, the scientist who tried to play God through his experimental procedures, while Jacob Elordi stars as the Monster created through this process. Mia Goth joins the cast as Elizabeth Lavenza, Victor's fiancée, in the enveloping narrative, whereas Christoph Waltz is set to play Harlander.
The first posters for the movie include Isaac and Elordi's characters in mysterious circumstances, previously teased through the initial set of stills and the eventual trailer.
Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein: The first poster for the movie is officially out
The first poster for the Guillermo Del Toro film features Oscar Isaac as the egotistical scientist in a dimly lit room. It appears to be the lab where he conducts his experiments on the monster in the movie.
The post shows him standing with his face turned to the other side. He is seen looking at a strange face carved on a wall on his right, while there's a deep hole in front of him.
The second poster, shared simultaneously by the streamer, features Frankenstein's Monster, played by Jacob Elordi. He is standing in the middle of a snow-scaped landscape in front of what looks like wreckage of some kind.
Even this time, we don't see his face, as it features him only from the back. He wears his heavy-layered coat that covers his lanky body from head to toe. It is a minimal but impressionistic look into the eerie world that offers space for him. However, Del Toro makes sure the poster states more than what's obvious. So, the tagline says,
"Only monsters play god."
It relates to the scientist, who goes to extreme lengths to pursue being a creator; it turns him into a monster. So, his otherwise scientific knowledge is shadowed by his innate desire to play god.
More details about Frankenstein on Netflix
Guillermo del Toro has a long legacy of turning some of the most shocking and terrifying creature-led stories into some of the most humane works to have ever been created on celluloid. He has proven that through his work on Pan's Labyrinth (2006), The Shape of Water (2017), or Pinocchio (2022). His latest Netflix film falls in the same lane.
The film's official plot synopsis reads,
"A brilliant but egotistical scientist brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation."
The movie was expected to be released only on the streamer. However, since the release of early stills, fans have been hoping to see it in the theaters, since Del Toro's work deserves that big-screen experience.
It looks like Netflix has listened to their prayers. Their official post mentions that the film will be released in select theaters on October 17, before the streaming release on November 7.
Apart from Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz, the cast also includes Lars Mikkelsen, Charles Dance, Ralph Ineson, Felix Kammerer, and David Bradley.
