Rian Johnson's murder mystery film Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has just received a first look from Netflix ahead of its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival.

The streamer has been tight-lipped about the details of the latest installment of the Knives Out mystery film series, which began with Johnson's eponymous 2019 film. Even the official description on the TIFF website doesn't reveal any more details about Benoit Blanc's new case apart from calling it a “seemingly insoluble case.”

Tudum from Netflix calls it Benoit Blanc's “most dangerous case yet.” So, the streamer is holding on to its secrets until the film becomes available to the audience. Until then, we have the film's first poster, which shows Daniel Craig at the front and centre, next to an open coffin, surrounded by his castmates, made up of Hollywood's who's who.

The poster also highlights the rest of the cast, featuring Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Josh Brolin, Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, and Mila Kunis.

Rather than a photograph, the poster uses a minimalist sketch, hinting at the atmospheric whodunit of Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Netflix recently experienced the success of a theatrical release with KPop Demon Hunters. Despite being out for only two days, the animated musical created quite a stir by topping the domestic box office charts for the weekend against Weapons. Shortly before, the streamer also announced a limited theatrical release for Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery becomes the latest addition to the list of Netflix titles that will be released in cinemas. The film will receive a limited theatrical release starting November 26 for two weeks. Later, it will have its streaming debut on December 12. According to Variety, the film's official synopsis reads:

“Benoit Blanc (Craig) returns for his most dangerous case yet in the third and darkest chapter of Rian Johnson’s murder mystery opus. When young priest Jud Duplenticy (O’Connor) is sent to assist charismatic firebrand Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Brolin), it’s clear that all is not well in the pews."

It further says:

"Wicks’s modest-but-devoted flock includes devout church lady Martha Delacroix (Close), circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt (Haden Church), tightly-wound lawyer Vera Draven (Washington), aspiring politician Cy Draven (McCormack), town doctor Nat Sharp (Renner), best-selling author Lee Ross (Scott), and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Spaeny)."

In the end, it offers a few more hints into the mystery:

"After a sudden and seemingly impossible murder rocks the town, the lack of an obvious suspect prompts local police chief Geraldine Scott (Kunis) to join forces with renowned detective Benoit Blanc to unravel a mystery that defies all logic.”

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery was reportedly filmed in London at the Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden, between June 10 and August 17, 2024. More details on this project are expected soon.
