US President Donald Trump publicly raised concerns about Netflix's planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The statement came after both companies announced an agreement valued at approximately $82.7 billion in enterprise value.

According to multiple reports, during an event in Washington, POTUS Donald Trump said Netflix had a "very big market share" and that combining it with Warner's studios and HBO streaming assets "could be a problem." He added:

"It is a very big market share… I will be involved in that decision too."

He also shared that Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos had recently visited the Oval Office, adding:

"I have a lot of respect for him. He is a great person. He has done one of the greatest jobs in the history of movies."

Sarandos shared in a previous statement:

"By combining Warner Bros.' incredible library of shows and movies, from timeless classics like Casablanca and Citizen Kane to modern favorites like Harry Potter and Friends, with our culture-defining titles like Stranger Things, KPop Demon Hunters and Squid Game, we will be able to do that even better."

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav mentioned:

"For more than a century, Warner Bros. has thrilled audiences, captured the world’s attention, and shaped our culture. By coming together with Netflix, we will ensure people everywhere will continue to enjoy the world’s most resonant stories for generations to come."

Netizens reacted to Trump's decision to be "involved" in the Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery deal as it "could be a problem", saying:

"First time agreeing with trump, never thought I would see the day"

Pop Base took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to post that,

"Donald Trump says the Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery deal ‘could be a problem’: “It’s a very big market share… I’ll be involved in that decision too”"

Netizens were notably quick to jump into the comment section of the X post as they penned their opinions on Trump's statement. Below are some of their remarks:

"I want to buy a burger from Burger King somebody tell me how to involve the president pls", joked an X user.
"Everything getting bought up by the same few people is no good", commented another.
"This is probably the only time I'll say Trump needs to be on our side for once. If this merger goes through, it will make or break Hollywood, he needs to be realistic with this.", added a third.

Others also chimed in:

"Should not he have more important things to worry about? I mean, we are failing as a society, people still struggle to afford food and he’s involved with a media merger. Alright! 👍🏻", commented a netizen.
"The deal is clearly a monopoly creating deal designed to muscle out any competitor in the space. What is coming is high prices and poorer quality entertainment.", shared another.
"Not one person in the comments is worried about the trash they could have our kids watching soon, like it’s not bad enough already. 🤦🏼‍♂️", penned a third.

The deal will face multiple approval stages in the United States, Europe, and other regulatory markets. Notably, Netflix is also obligated to pay a reverse breakup fee of $5.8 billion if regulators block the transaction.
