Liam Neeson is on a hilarious run lately. After carrying the legacy of Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun as his son, he has now entered a contagious wasteland in Cold Storage, an upcoming film directed by Jonny Campbell. Other than him, Joe Keery, Georgina Campbell, Sosie Bacon, and more are in the film too.
As of now, there is no exact release date for the movie, but it is scheduled to arrive at some point in the next year. StudioCanal has financed the film, and Samuel Goldwyn Films is distributing it across the United States.
Details on the plot are thin, but the film's synopsis on IMDb reads:
"When a mutating, highly contagious fungus escapes a sealed facility, two young employees - joined by a grizzled bioterror operative - must survive the wildest night shift ever to save humanity from extinction."
It comes from the mind of David Koepp, who has also written its screenplay. To this date, the writer and director has given screenplays for some of the finest films in the industry, including but not limited to Mission: Impossible (1996), Spider-Man (2002), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008), and more.
As of this writing, Koepp is currently the fourth-highest-grossing screenwriter, with his films earning $2.6 billion at the global box office.
The Cold Storage trailer looks like Resident Evil meets The Last of Us
The film's trailer just got released, and it looks like Resident Evil meets The Last of Us, but in a comic way. The colors and the desert-like tone give us the impression of the former, while this highly contagious fungus that is popping off people's heads makes them look like clickers from the latter.
We hear the sound of a woman at the beginning of the Cold Storage trailer, who is probably asking on a radio or a phone that "When did the outbreak start?" In the following shot, we see the bodies of the dead spread around on the roof of a building that's straight out of the Wild West.
That also reminds us of A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014), where Liam Neeson played the notorious outlaw Clinch Leatherwood, which also reminds us of Clint Eastwood. Noticed the similarities in how the names sound?
Speaking of Liam Neeson, he is wearing what looks like a hazmat suit to prevent the infection from this contagious fungus that has taken over the world of Cold Storage. Man, feel his gaze; it will make anyone feel disgusting. We can also see bodies whose chests have been split open, more like exploded from the inside. Interestingly, its head cracks open. Let's just hope it didn't give an infection to whoever was around it.
We are introduced to a military storage, and green fungus is spreading on the floor. It looks like Travis (Joe Keery) isn't really interested in exploring whatever the green hell this is. On the contrary, Naomi (Georgina Campbell) appears to be excited about this thing, as her expressions tell us.
But then a woman's head grossly explodes in front of them, and it seems Naomi, too, might be considering exploring whatever this is. The rest of the Cold Storage montage shows some more puke-worthy frames before Liam Neeson finally asks Naomi to tell Travis to "shut the f*ck up."
