The first trailer, which is the teaser trailer for Supergirl, has been released, and while it gives us a good look at Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, we also get to see other characters who are a part of the film. The most surprising revelation of the Supergirl trailer is Jason Momoa as Lobo.

Momoa becomes the first actor from the earlier DCEU to play a new character in the new DCU. The trailer gives us a very short look at Momoa as Lobo, who is a bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia.

Jason Momoa will star as Lobo in Supergirl

The teaser trailer for Supergirl revealed that we will see Kal-El's cousin, Kara Zor-El, who, unlike her cousin, was raised in Krypton until she was a teenager and thus still has some scars from having to watch everyone around her die. Kara likes to party and travel from one planet to another with her dog Krypto until she meets Ruthye Marye Knoll, through whom she comes across a dangerous situation that needs her help.

The trailer revealed Jason Momoa as Lobo, who doesn’t appear in the comic the film is based on, but will be seen in the film. Lobo, who is also known as the Main Man, is an anti-hero who is a mercenary and bounty hunter. Thus, while he kills for money, going from planet to planet on his floating bike, and is a tough guy, he isn't all bad. He does have a soft spot for his dog, Dawg, and is a good person.

Jason Momoa fits the role perfectly, given his broad physique and build. The teaser includes only one quick look at Lobo, so it’s still unclear how exactly he'll appear in the movie. He's a strong mercenary who can fight Kryptonians and might be hired to go after Supergirl and Ruthye, but given that he's not completely evil, he might see that Kara's intentions are pure, as opposed to Krem of the Yellow Hills, and might fight on her side.

The rest of the trailer shows us that Kara has just turned twenty-three and hopes for this year of her life to be the best, but that is highly unlikely. Next, we see how she still remembers how her home planet did not die in a day, and how everyone suffered. Kara will be facing Krem of the Yellow Hills with Ruthye and Krypto by her side. At the end of the trailer, we learn the difference between Kara and Kal-El. As Kara says about her and her cousin,

"He sees the good in everyone. And I see the truth."

The synopsis of the film, according to the teaser trailer's YouTube description, is,

When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.

Other than Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa, Supergirl stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll. The film is written by Ana Nogueira, based on the DC comic, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The production companies behind the show are DC Studios, Troll Court Entertainment, and The Safran Company.

Supergirl will be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
