The latest Netflix sensation by the acclaimed Guillermo del Toro, Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and more, is still one of the most talked-about films on the platform. It's currently the fifth most-watched film, having garnered an additional 7.3 million views last week. It was already watched 63 million times in the first 10 days of its release.
Recently, Mia Goth was in conversation with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where she said that she was overwhelmed when the movie was still in the works. She told him that,
"I was totally overwhelmed the entire time. I mean, we were shooting that from February to October of last year. And I was never able to get over the fact that he was Guillermo del Toro. And I wish I had been able to but I couldn't. I was very aware of the fact that I was working with Guillermo on the movie that you've always wanted Guillerme del Toro to make. And I was in my head a lot, just feeling very scared and overwhelmed."
You can visibly see the excitement on Mia Goth's face when she was talking about this. It seems like a dream come true for someone. She shared a similar sentiment in an October 2025 interview with Variety, saying that she was never this nervous to act in a movie before.
Mia Goth's experience with her role in Frankenstein was "magical"

Mia Goth was on double duty in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein, playing Victor's (Oscar Isaac) mother, Baroness Claire Frankenstein, and his love interest, Lady Elizabeth Harlander, who is also the fiancée of his younger brother, William.
In the movie, Victor develops feelings for Elizabeth due to her wit, intelligence, and free-spirited nature. However, there's a difference between them. While Victor sees his creation, The Creature, played by Jacob Elordi, as something disgusting, she sees the beauty in him.
Goth's character, as she told Tudum in one interview, was nothing short of a magical experience for her, and she wishes that viewers can feel it too. She says,
"The entire experience was just magical. So I hope they watch Frankenstein and they feel seen. I hope they feel a little less alone. In many ways, I feel like Elizabeth was mothering me throughout this whole process."
While Victor is drawn to her for her kind nature, to The Creature, as Tudum notes in its interview with the actress, she was an angel.
What's the real meaning of Frankenstein?
In the same interview with Variety, where Mia Goth told them she got nervous, Guillermo del Toro and Jacob Elordi shared how they perceived the latest film. For del Toro, it is about the “power of forgiveness and acceptance,” calling it something that's scarce in this world. For Elordi, this film was demanding that audiences see the beauty in it.
In case you haven't seen this beauty yet, it is available for streaming on Netflix.
