Godzilla x Kong 3’s title hints at a tragic fate for at least one of the monsters

Godzilla x Kong 3 is still two years away, but it has already led to many theories and discussions, thanks to the release of its teaser trailer. It is barely a minute long and reveals hardly anything. The clip shows a workstation going about their business as usual when a message pops up on one of the screens that reveals a report of a titan sighting. The Kaijuverse fans know that this means some other entity will enter the surface world to wreak havoc.

In addition to that, we finally understand the subtitle of the movie. Godzilla X Kong 3 is subtitled Supernova. Until now, the titles have offered at least a hint about the movie's storyline. The first movie in this storyline, 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong, shows these two creatures fighting each other. Then, 2024' Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire showed the creatures working on their desire to build an empire, much like the title suggests.

Based on past evidence, the title of Godzilla X Kong 3 likely reveals what will happen in the movie. The subtitle Supernova opens it up for a couple of possibilities, and the ones who are deep in the Monsterverse lore might have already guessed most of them.

Does Godzilla X Kong 3 hint at something specific?

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova hints that this new movie will either happen in outer space or an outer space character may just end up being the antagonist against the two titans from the Hollow Earth. Sources say that neither Godzilla nor Kong has powers that are dubbed as Supernova. Besides, no creatures in the lore are called Supernova either. However, if we look at the original meaning of the word itself, it leads to a potentially tragic fate for one of these characters.

A supernova refers to the explosion of a star, which happens when a star is nearing the end of its life. It indicates the final stages in a star's life, which means the movie might be about the last stages of either Godzilla or Kong. It is unclear from the teaser itself who that might be, but based on the lore from Toho (the Japanese company behind this universe), Godzilla is not immortal. He can die in case of a tragic situation, which means he might be the one at the end of his life.

However, Kong may be at the receiving end of this fate as well since he is likely in his twilight years. There are no fictional rules for this Great Ape as there are for Godzilla. So, the teaser doesn't expose which of them will die, but it hints that at least one of them will.

Who is going to kill one of the monsters?

The title for Godzilla X Kong 3 shows a red beam of light flashing through the word "Supernova." That hints at the potential inclusion of Gigan, who holds a laser knife that looks like that beam. He is also considered to be one of the major adversaries against Godzilla in the lore.

However, some other theories point out that SpaceGodzilla may be the cosmic villain in this third chapter. His origins are theorized to be connected to the black hole, thought of as a cosmic vacuum cleaner, to put it in simple terms. So, it can be the threat hinted at in Supernova. However, we will only know the answer after the release of Godzilla X Kong 3.
