The Golden Globe nominations for 2026 arrived with the usual buzz, but this year’s list stirred up more conversation than expected. Announced by Marlon Wayans and Skye P. Marshall, the lineup recognised many of the year’s major names in film and television, but the omissions were just as loud as the nods.

With buzzy projects like One Battle After Another, Sentimental Value and Sinners leading the film categories, and The White Lotus and Adolescence dominating TV, the groundwork for a competitive awards night was set.

Still, as the golden globe nominations rolled out, viewers quickly pointed out a mix of unexpected additions and surprising absences.

Golden Globes 2026 Snubs and Surprises

The biggest shock for many was Gwyneth Paltrow missing out on a supporting actress nomination for her return to the big screen in Marty Supreme. Her role opposite Timothée Chalamet was seen as a notable comeback, but it didn’t translate into Globe recognition this time, leaving fans questioning the tight competition in the category.

On the opposite end was Glen Powell, who unexpectedly scored a nomination in the TV comedy field for Chad Powers. His performance as a former quarterback hiding behind full prosthetics clearly struck a chord, earning him a spot many didn’t see coming.

Another talked-about snub was Sydney Sweeney’s absence from the lead actress race for her performance in Christy. Her portrayal of boxer Christy Martin drew strong critical attention, yet she didn’t appear on the nomination list, becoming one of the more debated omissions of the morning.

The movie didn’t secure a nomination for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. After the first part os the movie received that recognition in 2024, many assumed the second part would also do really well.

Julia Roberts, however, delivered one of the more pleasant surprises. Despite After the Hunt receiving mixed reactions earlier in the year, her performance earned her a place in the Best Actress Drama lineup, showing that her work still resonates strongly with voters.

This year’s Golden Globe nominations set the stage for an unpredictable awards night. With standout surprises and headline-worthy snubs, the conversation around the ceremony has already begun and it’s clear the final results in January will be closely watched.
