Good Fortune: Release date news, cast details and more about the upcoming comedy film starring Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves

John Wick star Keanu Reeves meets comedy king, Seth Rogen, thanks to director and co-star Aziz Ansari, who is now gearing up for his debut big screen entry, Good Fortune, this October, with Lionsgate currently holding distribution rights. Anthony Katagas and Alan Yang have worked as co-producers alongside Ansari for the upcoming comedy film.

Recently, Lionsgate dropped an official teaser for Good Fortune featuring action icon Reeves as a 'guardian Angel', but there's definitely more of a comic angle to all of it. The story revolves around the contrasting lives of an ordinary struggling individual and a rich capitalist, and how things unfold when an angel (in disguise) appears in the picture to save the less fortunate one.

The official synopsis of Good Fortune, per IMDb, reads:

"A well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker and a wealthy venture capitalist."

When will Good Fortune be released?

On October 17, 2025, Good Fortune will have its theatrical premiere across the United States. According to reports, filming kicked off in Los Angeles back in January 2024, though initially, cameras were supposed to start rolling the previous year in May (halted as a result of the WGA Strike, 2023). Stunt doubles were reportedly used while shooting certain sequences featuring Keanu Reeves, and filming was wrapped by March 2024.

What do we know about the plot of Good Fortune?

The two central characters of Good Fortune are a capitalist with a big fortune, Jeff, and a struggling young man named Arj, who in turn takes up odd jobs on behalf of the former, portrayed by Rogen and Ansari, respectively. On the other hand, up in Heaven, plans are being made to send Gabriel, an angel, to save people who do not have 'Good Fortunes'.

To quote Gabriel's words (seen in the teaser) as he talks to another angel named Martha:

"I want to guide people. I want to change their lives."

To this, Martha responds:

"To save a lost soul, you have to find a lost soul."

As the lines suggest, Gabriel then goes in search of 'a lost soul', though his usual duty includes:

"Saving people from texting and driving."

But this time, he gets a bigger opportunity and luckily stumbles upon the ordinary struggling guy, Arj. Seeing him going through all the trouble, Gabriel offers to help, but it only makes things go awry (Arj displaces Jeff's life)

A major glitch in the plan to save Arj (and make him as wealthy as his boss, Jeff) leads to Gabriel (the angel) losing his wings. Stripped of his godly powers, he starts living among the mortal beings and also shares a room with the new Arj. However, Gabriel's deeds come at a cost, and only time will tell how things will turn out.

Who is in the cast of Good Fortune?

Keanu Reeves will lead the cast of Good Fortune as Gabriel in the role of 'a budget guardian angel'. Alongside him, we have Emmy Award-nominated star Seth Rogen joining the role of a wealthy capitalist. Helmer Aziz Ansari will also feature himself in the movie playing the role of Arj, a struggling man doing all odd jobs possible.

According to Variety, director Ansari had spoken highly of Keke Palmer (whose role has not been specified yet), saying (during casting confirmation):
