Kate Winslet's directorial debut, Goodbye June, made its way to Netflix recently after being released in select theaters. She also stars in the film alongside an ensemble cast comprising Toni Collette, Helen Mirren, Johnny Flynn, and more.

The story revolves around a terminally ill mother, whose children have gathered again to be with her for one last time. There are emotions. Some will make you laugh, and some will make you cry. But all in all, it's a perfect family drama to watch during this holiday season.

Winslet's son, Joe Anders, has written the screenplay, and she wasn't initially directing it. However, reading the script prompted her to direct and produce it as well with Kate Solomon.

As of this writing, the film holds a 65% score from the critics and a 77% score from the audience on the review aggregator platform Rotten Tomatoes.

Let's see who plays whom in this drama film now.

At the center of the story is Helen Mirren's June, the terminally ill mother, whose children are there for her. Even though her character is in her last days, she's still the head of the family and resolves whatever she can with her charismatic persona.

Helen Mirren's career has spanned over six decades, during which she has appeared in films like The Madness of King George (1994), The Tempest (2010), Hobbs & Shaw (2019), and more.

Timothy Spall as Bernie

Bernie is June's husband in Goodbye June. He doesn't want to accept the fact that his wife is dying. He's trying anything that can distract him from avoiding reality, which, at times, becomes a matter of gags.

Timothy Spall portrays the character. Yes, the very same Spall who immortalized Peter Pettigrew, aka Wormtail, in the Harry Potter films.

Toni Collette as Helen

Then there's Toni Collette, who's June's first daughter in Goodbye June. It is her character that brings a lot of humor to the story, which makes it a fun watch every time she is on the screen.

While you might know her from the psychological horror Hereditary (2018), she's appeared in comic roles in films like Knives Out (2019) and Mickey 17 (2025).

Kate Winslet as Julia

And there's the director herself in the film, portraying Helen's second daughter, Julia, in Goodbye June. It was her personal experiences with grief that brought this story to life.

Even though she needs no introduction, we'll try just in case. She was the lead in James Cameron's Titanic (1997) and has appeared in other films like Revolutionary Road (2008), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), and more.

Andrea Riseborough as Molly

Andrea Riseborough plays June's third daughter, Molly. She doesn't really get along with her sister, Julia.

The actress has appeared in prominent films like Birdman (2014), Nocturnal Animals (2016), and more.

Johnny Flynn as Connor

Johnny Flynn's Connor is the only son of June in Goodbye June. You'll see him clashing with his father. He lives with his parents, even though he is in his thirties, and is taking care of his mother.

You've seen him in films like Stardust (2020), Operation Mincemeat (2021), and more.

Other actors appearing in Goodbye June

The aforementioned cast completes the family, but more actors appear in the film:

  • Stephen Merchant as Jerry
  • Fisayo Akinade as Nurse Angel
  • Jeremy Swift as Dr. David Titford
  • Raza Jaffrey as Dr. Simon Khal
  • Benjamin Shortland as Benji
