The world hasn't ended in Greenland 2: Migration, but it has changed for good. Some pockets of civilization still survive, and the Garrity family is among them. In the first film, the planet was struck by the Clarke interstellar comet, causing electromagnetic storms. People are scurrying off whatever's left of the planet, and with the climate triggering such events, it makes survival even more risky.
As the Garrity family, consisting of John (Gerard Butler), Allison (Morena Baccarin), and Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis), is the main focus of this post-apocalyptic survival film, they prepare for a journey to Europe, where they've heard that things have settled down for good.
That place turns out to be a real safe haven, unlike the Arcadia from Resident Evil: Afterlife, which turns out to be a trap. However, during their journey to this safe place, they lose a couple of lives, which gives the film a bittersweet ending. It hopefully ends there, as no sequel has been announced yet.
Who dies in Greenland 2: Migration?
With what you are about to read, you are likely to think about A Quiet Place if you have watched the post-apocalyptic horror film by John Krasinski. While there are many deaths in the Gerard Butler film, it is his character's death that comes as the major one.
In Greenland 2: Migration, John is mostly working outside. Due to that, his body has been exposed to radiation, which causes it to slowly collapse. We learn this late in the film, but he does make it to the end of the story. Though it is not his illness that kills him, it is the sacrifice he makes for his family.
When they are on their way to the destination, they are ambushed. John tries to defend them, but to no avail. It is those wounds that kill him at the end of Greenland 2: Migration.
Along with him, there is another character in the film who plays an important role, Dr. Amina (Amber Rose Revah), who tags along with the family during their journey. She dies while they are en route to the destination when a group of bandits attacks them.
What they heard was true
At the core of Greenland 2: Migration is the destination in the south of France, where they have heard that humanity has survived and that circumstances are similar to how things were before the crater hit the planet. Things have somehow settled down at the site.
All of it turns out to be true when the group reaches their destination. They see that while the entire Earth has been laden with ash and energy storms, it is nothing like that here. All they see are clear skies and nature thriving again, something they can finally call home.
This ends the story, and John finally succumbs to his wounds once he is assured that his family is safe. He dies in peace knowing that.
