What is the plot of Hallow Road?

Hallow Road is about a couple, Maddie (Rosamund Pike) and Frank (Matthew Rhys). Alice (Megan McDonnell) is their only child. One night, they get a call from her, with Alice sounding desperate. She informs them about an accident that she caused. Both Maddie and Frank then try to help their daughter by covering up all the evidence that would get her arrested. This leads them to certain revelations.

Hallow Road follows Maddie and Frank as they try to save Alice from a serious situation. As Maddie is telling Alice how to perform CPR on the body, the latter makes certain confessions. Alice tells them that she is pregnant with someone's child. The parents also get to know that she'd consumed the MDMA drug. Alice also never called the ambulance and was lying about it.

These revelations startle the parents, and Frank plans to take all the blame to save her from any legal actions. He seems worried primarily about the family's reputation and his lack of control over Alice. Alice appears to have trust issues with her parents, which is why she couldn't tell them everything.

They also keep seeing a mysterious woman on the road. There's no explanation as to who she actually is. Towards the end of Hallow Road, Frank and Maddie come across a dead body on the road. Frank checks and realizes it's Alice. The cops inform them that she died in an accident. This happens after Maddie and Frank finally reach the hallow road and see a corpse.

Maddie calls Alice and tells them that she's been kidnapped. She sees the mysterious woman taunting them for correcting girls like Alice. The call ends as the cops start blocking the road. In the morning, the cops analyze the scene as a hit-and-run incident. The detectives tell the couple that the call they got from Alice was trauma-induced. She was dead when they got the call, and Maddie kept talking to her despite seeing the dead body.

The call can be stated as an example of a delusion shared by the couple. Both of them were fuelled with guilt, and that might have culminated in a hallucination. Maddie was also feeling bad about her work as a paramedic, while Frank thought he had failed as his family's protector.
