Netflix seems to have struck gold with its latest Adam Sandler movie, as Happy Gilmore 2 has charted a record-breaking number of viewing minutes shortly after its premiere on the streamer.

The sports comedy flick marks Sandler's return to the world he introduced almost 20 years ago, with Happy Gilmore. It was a major comedy hit that turned him into one of the definitive comedic talents of his generation. Since then, he has starred in several comedies that have drawn an audience devoted to his style of humor.

Unlike the 1996 movie, Happy Gilmore 2 was only released on streaming, but judging by its numbers, it seems like a blockbuster in its own right. According to a Variety report, the Adam Sandler-starrer flick has crossed the 2.9 billion viewing minutes mark just within its debut weekend, as per Nielsen, surpassing a previously held record by a Rian Johnson mystery.

What record did Happy Gilmore 2 break on Netflix viewing charts?

According to the Nielsen Streaming data, Happy Gilmore 2, which arrived on Netflix on July 25, has marked over 2.9 billion viewing minutes in the July 21-27 week. This means that it made a record within a few days of starting to stream on the platform.

With those viewing figures, it has reportedly broken the record previously held by Rian Johnson's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the mystery drama sequel, which marked over 2.2 billion viewing minutes upon its debut in December 2025, as per Variety.

Besides this, the sports comedy sequel has reportedly offered the best opening streaming week for an Adam Sandler flick.
